Zain answers Misbah's call for help.
Zain arrived in Hollyoaks in February 2022 at the request of Misbah Maalik, whose son Imran Maalik had been on a downward spiral due to family issues and renounced his faith. In his attempts to help Imran, Zain grew close to Misbah, but the pair only got together when Misbah's co-worker Cleo McQueen played matchmaker. Misbah's daughter Yazz initially opposed to the relationship, changing her mind when Zain told her about his late wife Jamila.
Misbah and Zain's relationship hit a rough patch when Zain decided against accompanying Misbah to court as Ali Shahzad stood tried for raping Misbah in the 1990s. He then revealed that he had abruptly stopped taking the anti-depressants he had been prescribed to help him cope with Jamila's suicide, and couldn't bare the risk of Ali being found not guilty. An understanding Misbah advised Zain to follow his doctor's orders.
Zain and Misbah marry.
After Misbah's son Shaq Qureshi and his bride Nadira Valli both jilted each other at their wedding in August 2022, Misbah and Zain decided to marry instead. However, the pair realised that they had married too soon as they learned of their differences on the honeymoon. Things were resolved when Zain retrieved a wedding ring he has purchased when their missing luggage was found. However, the pair fell out again when Imran ended up in hospital with anorexia-related injuries and Misbah falsified Imran's medical documents to grant him a place in a clinic sooner. After Misbah was advised to resign by Doctor Lewis, Zain decided to use the money from Jamila's impending life insurance pay-out to cover costs for a month stay at the clinic.

- Despite his surname being confirmed as Rizwaan in dialogue, Zain was incorrectly credited as "Zain Randeri" between February and August 2022.
