Wayne Tunnicliffe was the friend of Ste Hay. He dated Michaela McQueen for a few months, but later dumped her through text message, saying that she was "easy". Ste and Wayne later befriended Josh Ashworth so they could get closer to his sister, Hannah, but gave up when Hannah wouldn't give them the time of day. The pair also began bullying Nicole Owen after her brother, Sam, caused an explosion at The Dog in the Pond after escaping prison. The pair also bullied Steph Dean, and threw eggs at Elliot Bevan when he defended her, to which Steph helped Elliot.
Wayne later befriended Sonny Valentine, and discovered that Michaela had feelings for Sonny. He told Sonny and made jokes about Michaela, which Sonny went along with to hide the fact that they were secretly having a relationship. When Wayne began insulting Michaela, Sonny revealed that he was dating Michaela and warned Wayne to stop insulting her. However, Wayne teased Michaela over the fact that her brother, John Paul McQueen, was gay. John Paul grabbed Wayne and threatened him, which made Wayne back down.
Wayne sold his brother's ADHD medication, which Nancy Hayton purchased. Nancy became addicted, and lost her temper when Wayne ran out. Wayne tried asking Nancy out and bought movie tickets, but Nancy ripped them up and exploded at Wayne for being unable to get her the drugs.
Wayne attended a house party thrown by Amy Barnes and Michaela. Wayne stole food and CDs, and Amy caught him in her daughter, Leah Barnes's bedroom. Wayne, who was drunk, grabbed Leah, so Ste (who believed he was Leah's father) took Leah back, attacked Wayne and threw him out.
