Wardy was the friend of Rob Edwards and Will Savage, playing on the same rugby team as the pair. Wardy would often join the pair on night outs and parties at the SU Bar. In May 2012, Wardy caught Scott Sabeka kissing Rob's ex-girlfriend Annalise Appleton and blackmailed Scott. Wardy ended up showing Rob the photos, but Rob acted unconcerned to Wardy's annoyance. Scott met with Rob, apologising and offering to let Rob punch him, which Rob refused to do. Wardy took matters into his own hands and punched Scott, to which Rob leapt to his defence and punched Wardy.
