Victoria Sawer served as the prosecution barrister in the trial of Mercedes Fisher for perverting the course of justice in December 2012. Sawer cross-examined Phoebe McQueen, Mitzeee Minniver, Mercedes and Doctor Browning, pointing out that the kidnap was to "teach Riley Costello a lesson" and escape with the money, whilst stabbing herself to frame Mitzeee. However, defence barrister Jim McGinn and the defendant blamed Riley and pretended that he was abusive, resulting in the jury returning a not guilty verdict.
