The Chester Herald is a newspaper targeted towards the Chester area, regularly reporting on events occurring in Hollyoaks. It can be purchased at Price Slice, which also has a board at the front of the store with the latest headlines. The Chester Herald also has a website, which has been used more regularly by the village residents in recent years and especially during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The Chester Herald was established at some point prior to 1995, and has reported on several events in the area including the discovery of an abandoned baby in December 1997, Steph Dean catching a burglar in the act in September 2005, serial rapist Sam Owen's trial in March 2006, the arrest of Kim Butterfield (mistaken to be The Gloved Hand Killer) in April 2016, the murder of Nico Blake in June 2018, and the arrest of Sally St. Claire for the murder of George Kiss in June 2021.
Several of the village residents have worked at The Chester Herald. Ruth Osborne had several articles posted in the newspaper in the 1990s with co-writer Simon Sharp, John Paul McQueen's ex-boyfriend Spike later became a journalist for the company, whilst Michaela McQueen engaged in a feud with Meriel Vaughn as the pair both worked at the company in 2010.
