Tabitha "Tabby" Maxwell-Brown is the mother of Marnie Nightingale. She arrived in the village when Marnie asked her for £60,000 after being scammed by Jude Cunningham. Tabby was unhappy to learn that Marnie was still married to Mac Nightingale, and tried to convince her that she should leave Mac. Marnie did not take kindly to Tabby trying to split her and Mac, and confronted her. She told Tabby that she loved Mac and Mac loved her back, but Tabby never once said that she loved Marnie. Tabby decided to leave, writing Marnie a cheque for £60,000, which she left propped up against a photo of Marnie and Mac.
Tabby later returned in February 2017 for the funeral of her grandson, Nathan Nightingale. She comforted Marnie, but made clear that she still did not approve of Mac.
