Shelley Newton is the mother of Barry "Newt" and Jensen Newton. Newt was removed from Shelley by social services due to her drug addiction, and was placed in a care home. In October 2008, Shelley visited Newt at 1 Stockton Lane as he had been placed to be fostered by the Osborne family. Shelley asked Newt to move away with her, but Newt changed his mind when Shelley made clear that she hadn't changed and insulted his best friend Lauren Valentine.
In June 2010, Shelley visited Newt, introducing him to his baby brother Jensen. Shelley left Jensen with Newt, claiming to have booked a job interview in Scotland. Newt ended up believing that Shelley had abandoned Jensen by leaving him with Newt and planned to leave with him and Rae Wilson, but Shelley soon returned and revealed that she had been offered the job and accepted. Shelley also allowed for Rae to join them, but Rae decided to stay in Chester after her grandmother suffered a stroke.
