Scott Drinkwell (previously Drinkwell-Deveraux) is the biological son of Maggie Kinsella, the adoptive son of Lynette Drinkwell, the half-brother of Damon Kinsella, and the ex-husband of Mitchell Deveraux-Drinkwell. Since May 2022, Scott has been the foster parent of Vicky Grant.

Biography[]

1987-2015: Life Before Hollyoaks[]

Scott was conceived as an affair between prostitute Maggie Kinsella and an unknown man. Maggie fell pregnant but struggled to care for him. Scott was then adopted by Lynette Drinkwell, whose husband had conceived Scott with Maggie. However, Scott was kept oblivious to his adoption and formed a strong bond with his family.

2015-2016: Arrival & Schemes[]

Scott arrived in the village in April 2015, applying for a job at Hollyoaks High School. After encountering his cousin Sinead O'Connor, he moved into 3 Oakdale Drive, Flat 4 with her and the Hutchinson family. Scott was hired as an assistant for Hollyoaks High School principal Patrick Blake, but was fired not long afterwards after being caught falsely calling in sick on several occasions. Discovering that Sinead still had feelings for Ste Hay, the boyfriend of her step-brother Harry Thompson, Scott began meddling in their relationship in an attempt to split them up. Ste discovered Scott's plan and tried to get him evicted, but Scott flooded the flat so they would all have to leave until the damage was repaired.

After Scott's aunt Diane Hutchinson pushed for him to find somewhere else to live near the village, Scott began poisoning Diane so she would need him to care for her. After her recovery, she allowed Scott to stay. However, after Diane and Tegan Lomax discovered that their daughters Dee Dee Hutchinson and Rose Lomax had been swapped at birth by drunk midwife Mariam Andrews, Tegan convinced Scott to help her kidnap Rose so Diane couldn't take her from her. Despite escaping legal consequence, Diane and her husband Tony Hutchinson learned of Scott's betrayal, but eventually forgave him.

Despite developing an attraction towards John Paul McQueen, Scott supposedly grew close to James Nightingale, unaware that he and his mother Marnie were using him to get Tony and Diane's restaurant The Hutch. After agreeing to cater Joe Roscoe and Holly Cunningham's wedding for a loss for the restaurant, Marnie and James discovered that the restaurant was in financial difficulty. James pretended to be attracted to Scott before getting him to unknowingly sabotage the business: watering down drinks (allowing James and Marnie to report the business to the Consumer Institute) and getting him to dress as a clown to bring negative attention. Marnie then told Scott that a friend of hers resorted to arson to save their business, convincing Scott to do the same with The Hutch. However, John Paul overheard Marnie's intentions to call the police and managed to inform Scott before the police arrived.

2016-2018: Family Revelations[]

After being saved by John Paul, Scott ended up sleeping with him. John Paul's mother Myra McQueen took a disliking to Scott, which left John Paul second-guessing their relationship. After discovering that John Paul's transgender boss Sally St. Claire was John Paul's biological father, Scott agreed to keep her secret, but John Paul learned the truth and Scott admitted that he already knew. John Paul was left angry and broke up with John Paul, but they eventually reunited. However, John Paul was left uncomfortable as Scott became rather 'full on', proposing to him not long after their reconciliation. James - having feelings for John Paul - struck up a friendship with him. After catching John Paul posing as James's boyfriend at a work-lunch, Scott and John Paul had an argument and John Paul ended up sleeping with James. Scott broke up with John Paul upon learning the truth.

Befriending Mercedes McQueen, Scott decided to exact revenge on James by stealing his credit card and spending extravagantly. After purchasing a plane ticket to follow John Paul to Singapore, James was alerted of the attempted transaction and decided to make Scott pay the spent money back. Meanwhile, Scott's cousin Lily Drinkwell told him of her suspicions that Diane had an affair with Scott's biological father, so Scott called Lynette to the village to get Diane to confess. However, Lynette ended up revealing the truth behind Scott's conception and that Lynette had adopted him. Scott then began his quest to find his biological parents, managing to find the address of his biological mother 'Margaret'. Despite discovering that he had a brother named Damon, Scott was left devastated when Maggie rejected him.

Deciding to make a film for the village fête, Scott ended up getting on the wrong side of several villagers. Also struggling with Maggie's rejection and John Paul's departure, Scott made a video of himself before slitting his wrists. Scott survived the attempt but struggled in the aftermath, especially after learning that the job he had been offered at Price Slice was because Diane had desperately convinced shopkeeper Simone Loveday to hire him. After being rejected by Maggie for a second time, Scott learned that Damon was working at Duke Street Social Club and began befriending him. Damon's best friend Brody Hudson sabotaged Scott's attempts to help Damon with an events night at the bar, and arranged a surprise birthday party for Damon which resulted in Maggie and Scott's link to each other to be revealed.

Damon turned on both Scott and Maggie, leading Scott to re-enter a downward spiral. Now working at Nightingale's, Scott struggled when Marnie left him in charge and he fled, taking refuge in his flat. Having changed his mind about Scott, Damon - accompanied by Brody - visited Scott, finding him sitting in the shower with a bottle of pills. The pair convinced him to return to hospital and Damon began getting along with Scott. Maggie, however, was still uninterested in Scott and pretended to reach out to him so Damon would forgive her. After learning that Maggie had terminal cancer, Scott proved to be the most supportive until Maggie asked him to help her die. Maggie then told Scott the full story behind his conception and adoption and the pair reconciled.

2018-2020: Maggie's Death and Relationship with Mitchell[]

Initially planning to help Maggie die, Damon and Brody found out and stopped him. Scott suggested that Maggie formed a bucket list of things to do before she died and snuck her out of the hospital. The trio helped her complete her list, with Maggie passing away from pneumonia as Brody, Damon and Scott performed Van Morrison's 'Brown-Eyed Girl' for her. Scott ended up befriending Oliver Morgan who was left conflicted over his sexuality as he was being sexually abused by Damon's father, football coach Buster Smith (who had moved to the village following Maggie's death).

Ollie's father Luke Morgan accused Scott of abusing Ollie and attacked him, whilst Buster gave Scott's name to the press. Brody - having also been abused by Buster - realised the truth and convinced Ollie to report Buster to the police. Scott struggled with the allegations even after leaving hospital, so after reconciling with Damon, they and Brody went on holiday in Wales. On his return, Scott began drag performing, made friends with Martine Deveraux and her niece Lisa Loveday, and was caught in the middle of Mercedes's feud with Grace Black.

After developing alter-ego "Anita Tinkle" (with Martine and Lisa's assistance), Scott began drag performing. He began a short-lived relationship with doctor Levi Rochester, which ended when he discovered about Scott's performances. However, Scott's performances as Anita caught the attentions of Mitchell Deveraux, who developed feelings for her and soon feelings for Scott. Mitchell was left feeling conflicted between his struggling relationship with Cleo McQueen, feelings for Scott/Anita, and the homophobic views of his grandfather Walter Deveraux. After Scott was injured in the Florist collapse in 2019, Cleo discovered his affair with Mitchell and left the village.

However, Scott moved on from Mitchell with Azim Desai: Azim worked with Scott on Sinead and Sami Maalik's engagement party, so Azim asked Scott to help with Jesse Donovan and Courtney Campbell wedding. Azim revealed his feelings for Scott and the pair began dating, with Scott rejecting Mitchell in favour of Azim. Azim was offered a job at a high-profile wedding planning company in London and invited Scott to go with him, but after weeks of deliberation, Scott realised that he was still in love with Mitchell and decided to remain in the village. Mitchell ended up choosing Scott over Walter, resulting in Walter coming to his senses and accepting their relationship.

2020-: Marriage to Mitchell and Fostering[]

Mitchell proposed to Scott in May 2020, with Mitchell's recently returned estranged father Felix Westwood paying for their wedding at Thornoak Hall. The pair married at September 2020, but ended up facing police questioning shortly afterwards as Lisa Loveday had gone missing following the reception. Their marriage soon hit the rocks as Mitchell ended up in debt, and the pair had a disagreement when Scott talked about adoption. After Mitchell disappeared for a few days, Scott found him, only for Mitchell to break up with him and leave the village.

Scott spent most of 2021 helping family and friends with their problems: Tony with his recovery following his father Edward's attempts to destroy his life, Diane as she began experiencing symptoms of OCD, and Grace as she searched for a roommate. He also supported Damon after Brody's death in a hit-and-run in September. After caring for his friend's daughter Mary as his friend went into hospital for a few days, Scott ultimately decided to register to become a foster carer.

Scott met foster worker Keith in January 2022, but changed his mind about the meeting as he knew Diane would struggle with a new resident in the flat. Diane convinced Scott to change his mind and Scott moved in with friend Maxine Minniver at 8 Rowing Club Apartments, soon becoming a registered foster carer. Shortly afterwards, Vicky Grant was placed with Scott as an emergency placement. After an initial rocky start - especially when Vicky's ex-boyfriend Joseph Holmes arrived on the scene - Scott and Vicky ended up developing a close bond.
