Rhys Lesley Ashworth was the son of Suzanne and Neville Ashworth (although biologically the son of Neville's brother Noel), the half brother of Hannah and Josh Ashworth, Frankie, and the late JJ Osborne. He was also the husband of Jacqui McQueen, and the father of Katy O'Connor.
Biography[]
2005-2006: Arrival[]
Rhys is first seen in September 2005 and has a run in with Lee Hunter whom finds Rhys is his former families home. Rhys tells Lee that his family have brought the home and will be moving in soon and the next day Rhys arrives again this time with his younger brother, Josh who again end up winding Lee up but the rest of Rhys' family in his mother, father and younger sister Hannah all arrive a few days later. Rhys' best friend, Gilly Roach also arrives in the village and is allowed to move in with the Ashworth's to Rhys' delight. The two then begin to look for courses to do in the local college.
Rhys would instantly get along with Kathy Barnes when he gives her a helping hand with her students but things get a bit awkward for Rhys when he meets Kathy's eldest daughter in Sarah Barnes whom lies to Rhys that she's older the then she and that she is a student teacher however is the same age as Rhys' younger sister in Hannah and unaware of Sarah's real age, Rhys begins to date her but Rhys later discovers the truth about how old Sarah really is and dumps her due to all of her lies however after a thought process, Rhys decides to get back with Sarah much to Kathy's anger and Rhys later sleeps with Kathy which ends his relationship with Sarah when she finds this out.
2007-2008: Father Reveal & Incest[]
By June 2007, Rhys is shocked to discover that Neville is not his biological father but instead its Neville's brother and Rhys' supposed uncle, Noel Ashworth as it turned out Suzanne had an affair with Noel years back this shocks Rhys whom meets up with Noel to get to know the truth and Rhys attempts to bond with Noel whom tells Rhys his dying from Cancer but Rhys later tells Noel that he will always see Neville as his father.
In October 2007, Rhys would meets a young woman named, Beth Clements after he accidentally hits Beth with his car this leads Rhys to take an instant liking towards Beth who he eventually asks out on a date and the two would begin a relationship by going on various dates with one another despite Rhys wanting to take their relationship slow Beth manages to persuade Rhys to have sex in which they do so later on Rhys is informed that Noel has passed away from his Illness and after speaking with Josh, Rhys decides to attend Noel's wake where he is shocked to learn that he is Beth's half brother after they are introduced shocking both of them.
After the reveal a scare and disgusted Rhys tells Beth she should leave the village however Beth tells Rhys that she isn't going anywhere but despite being disgusted at the fact he slept with his half sister it's clear that Rhys is still very much in love with Beth and Rhys would become rather jealous of Beth and Gilly when they began a relationship even going as far as too punch Gilly one time but Rhys is left sad when Beth leaves to go to Thailand with Gilly for a few weeks during which Rhys would start a lustful relationship with Mercedes McQueen however Rhys would end the relationship with Mercedes and turn his attention back towards Beth when she returns with Gilly by 2008 and despite many obstacles such as Hannah having a chance of relapse and Michaela McQueen spotting them kissing. Rhys eventually decides to depart with Beth by April 2008 despite the Ashworths pleas however on the way to the airport Rhys would crash head on with a truck which kills Beth instantly, Rhys is devastated when his told Beth has died and eventually begins to make up with his family and his friend Gilly.
2009: Hayley, Band, Family Clashes & Hannah's Relapse[]
In January 2009, Rhys meets Hayley Ramsey but Rhys soon decides against dating Hayley when he discovers that she is disabled and in a wheelchair this leads Rhys to be confronted by Hayley's brother, Zak Ramsey but Rhys would soon get to know Hayley and quickly bond with her and soon begin a relationship with her. Rhys would then later focus as well as join a band which is called "The Something",
Rhys would be against Hannah dating Justin Burton and would often clash with Justin whenever he was around Hannah when Rhys discovers that Warren Fox was "killed" in a fire in May 2009, Rhys suspects Justin was the culprit however Hannah told him it was in fact Clare Devine. By December 2009, Rhys would support Hannah when she has a relapse after her failed relationships the past year with both Justin and Jamie but along with Darren Osborne Rhys would manage to get Hannah the helps and when Jamie returns in January 2010, Rhys would attack him along with Darren and threaten him to leave however after Jamie stabs Darren weeks later, Rhys along with Josh would wave good by to Hannah by February 2010.
Rhys would take a liking towards new student, India Longford totally unaware Josh has also taking a liking towards her and Rhys begins to clash with Josh over India and it leads to violence when Rhys would be punched by Josh for flirting with India. Rhys would be shocked after learning Josh was involved in a car crash after he supplied him with the booze however despite the bad car crash, Rhys manages to pull Josh out of the wreckage, Rhys would be the one to discover his mothers affair with Darren who Rhys punches for but this would lead both Suzanne and Neville to split and leave for Spain and Josh leaves also which leaves Rhys to stay by himself in The Dog in the Pond until the arrival of the Costello family whom have bought the pub.
2010-2012: Relationship with Jacqui, Affair with Cindy & Death[]
After his families departure, Rhys would move in with Darren and his father, Jack Osborne and Jacqui McQueen and later on Duncan Button. Both Rhys and Jacqui both sign up on a dating site and unknowingly begin to talk to one another as they both would bag themselves a job at the local club now known as Chez Chez and when both Rhys and Jacqui surprisingly discover that had been talking to each other for weeks this shocks the two who agree not to have it go any further however their boss, Cheryl Brady to try and get Rhys and Jacqui together and later on Rhys and Jacqui eventually bond towards one another when Rhys and Jacqui play virtual tennis while Jacqui is babysitting Tom Cunningham and this leads them to kiss and although Jacqui would later move in with Rhys the two are not quite in a relationship just yet. By December 2010, Rhys becomes jealous when Jacqui begins to date gangster, Danny Houston but Rhys would begin to see Jacqui behind Danny's back but the two would eventually be caught by Danny which would lead to Rhys to be later attack outside the club after weeks of Danny's torment Rhys and Jacqui would move on with their lives but Rhys was led to believe by Danny that Jacqui had slept with him and this lead to Rhys to sleep with Cheryl.
By 2011, Rhys is found out by Jacqui to have slept with Cheryl and this leads to the two to split up and Rhys is shocked to learn that Jacqui had kissed Gilly but even further more when Jacqui tells Rhys that Gilly has in fact raped her and this makes Rhys unable to choose who he believes however Rhys eventually comes to his senses after a few days and sides with Jacqui ending his friendship with Gilly in the process and by March 2011, Rhys would attend the trial and would end up fighting with Gilly later on Rhys proposes to Jacqui however she declines and Gilly is found not guilty however Rhys is delighted when Jacqui accepts his proposal and Rhys would later but Jacqui a dog to cope with her anxiety and the two would soon marry but hit some problems when Jacqui is unable to sleep with Rhys due to her ordeal with Gilly and this causes the two to have various arguments and eventually Rhys is shocked when Jacqui moves back home on top of Gilly returning leading Rhys to pinch him and lose his job later on Rhys and Jacqui decide to get back together as Gilly comes round and admits to what he did to Jacqui and the three are involved in a three hander episode and the next day Rhys watches on as Gilly leaves.
By January 2012, Rhys and Jacqui begin to hit some money troubles so they welcome a new lodger in Ally Gorman and the two would later adopt Phoebe Jackson. Rhys would later help a depressed Mercedes after her split from Riley Costello which leads Mercedes to try and kiss Rhys however Rhys tells Jacqui causing the sisters to fall out but later on Rhys would share a spark with Cindy Cunningham whom he would eventually begin an affair with for most par of 2012 despite Rhys being told by Cindy its finished between them a number of times especially when Tony goes blind following a crash off-screen however when Tony gets his eye sight back Rhys and Cindy are caught kissing by him however Tony does not say anything to Rhys or Cindy however Cindy's constant flip flopping leads to Rhys sleeping with Sinead O'Connor however during Cindy's and Tony's double wedding by November 2012, Rhys is delighted when Cindy tells him she wants to run away with him however a mini bus driven by Maddie Morrison crashes into the venue and Rhys is seriously injured and loses a lot of blood and tragically dies while talking to Jacqui devastating Jacqui, Cindy and Tony. Jacqui would discover of the affair by December 2012 leading to her to attack Cindy and rekindle her relationship with Tony and weeks after his death a pregnant Sinead tells Rhys at he grave that his is the father of her baby.
2014: Ghostly Return[]
Despite being dead for the best part of nearly two years, Rhys is seen again in August 2014 as a hallucination suffered by Cindy. Cindy suffers from bipolar disorder and was having a manic episode. In Cindy's hallucination, Rhys orders her to get baby Katy (who had sadly passed away in March 2014) from Sinead so that they can finally run away together. This leads Cindy to kidnap Dee Dee Hutchinson and attempt to flee the village. Both Holly and Dirk distract Cindy during her attempt to run away, and during so Rhys is "hit" by a bus, Cindy flees away from her loved ones and is joined by Rhys who "dies" in Cindy's arms, Cindy is later found and the sectioned under the mental health act.
