Character Profile

Rex Gallagher is a gangster who contacts Warren Fox in June 2024. Rex later discovers his father is the late gangster Fraser Black. He is the half brother of Grace Black, Clare Devine and Dee Dee Hutchinson and the adoptive half brother of Ro Hutchinson.

Biography[]

19??-2024: Childhood and Backstory[]

Rex grew up in and out of rough children's homes where he never felt loved. At the children's homes he would have done chores and looked after babies that also lived there. After he left the children's home he worked for multiple gangs, moving packages and dealing drugs. When Rex was a teenager he was groomed into having sex with older men, he thought he had control over the situation but realised years later what was truly happening.

A gangster who worked for Fraser Black called Blue took Rex under his wing and was someone who he looked up to and wanted to be just like, even referring to himself as one of Blue’s soldiers. In 2017 Rex hired a hit on someone using Blue’s signature blue bullets to lure him out of hiding but was unsuccessful.

2024: Arrival[]

Rex meets with Warren who at first assumes that Rex wants to go into business with him however Rex states he wants to buy Warren out who is left angry by that proposal and sends Rex on his way which in return Rex leaves a threat towards Warren. It's then seen Rex knows Hannah Ashworth as he is revealed to be her former pimp who she was trying to escape from. Rex forces Hannah to work for him again and gets her a new client who turns out to be Dave Williams who Hannah already knows, Rex is left stunned when Dave helps Hannah escape and stays behind.

Rex is later seen hanging around the village intimidating Hannah to continue working for him. When Rex later discovers that Robbie is planning on going on the run with Hannah, Rex attacks and kidnaps him.

On the day of Ste Hay's trial for killing Warren's daughter Ella Richardson in a hit and run, Rex encounters Ste at court and the pair hook up in the toilets after revealing to Ste he's gay. The pair finish hooking up just in time to avoid Ste's husband James Nightingale catching them. Rex later flirts with an uncomfortable Ste who tells him that their hook up was a one off.

Rex later approaches Warren over a gangster going by the name "Blue", telling Warren they need to stick together given Blue is dangerous. Warren declines the offer telling Rex to leave. However, Rex is later recruited by Warren to kill Freddie Roscoe along with Ste, Rex then prepares to carry out the hit by confronting Freddie and threatens Lexi, he then takes Freddie to his old home and ties him up however when Rex leaves Ste alone with Freddie, Ste frees him but Rex knocks him unconscious front escaping fully. Rex then attempts to drown Freddie but is interrupted by Freddie's now wife Grace Black who has been released from prison early.

Rex leaves Freddie fighting for his life after attacking him as Freddie suffers from secondary drowning and is hooked onto a ventilator in Dee Valley Hospital, Rex later visits a sedated Freddie contemplating whether to kill him but instead leaves a blue coin on Freddie's chest.

Rex later accompanies the McQueen family during the opening of Casa McQueen which didn't go to plan after Warren receives a bomb threat. After a hospital visit Warren discovers that he's been spiked by LSD, the culprit is revealed to be Rex once he put a small bottle of LSD in Ste's jacket. Rex is eventually found out by Ste when the pair tie up Ethan Williams. In response to this Rex threatens Ste to help him bring down Warren otherwise he will show James a sex tape of him and Ste from the day of the court hearing..

Rex is unaware that Warren has sussed him and is shocked when he's trapped in a van that belongs to Warren and is set alight but despite the van exploding, Rex manages to survive and escape meeting with 'Blue' after vowing to take out Warren.

Rex is confronted by Grace on the day Freddie is waking up from his coma. Grace threatens Rex who manages to escape. Later on Rex warns Ste. Rex later decides to meet Grace at The Love Boat, where she attacks him then ties him up. Rex is then questioned by Grace on who Blue is, however Freddie decides to let Rex free. Rex confronts Ste once more this time telling Ste he won't show James the video of them having sex. However, a vengeful Grace later shows James the video after Rex managed to drop his phone while being freed.

Rex later meets with 'Blue' when it's revealed that 'Blue' is in fact Dave Williams. Rex is then put to the task to frame Warren for Norma's murder by Dave and it works however when Warren's son Joel Dexter gives Warren a fake alibi, Rex is put to another task, this time kidnapping both of Mercedes McQueen's twins in Maria-Gabriella and Maria-Carmela when they are under the supervision of teen Vicky Grant. Rex returns the twins once Warren gives an official confession to the police but Donny Clark gets too close to exposing Dave as Blue therefore, Rex is put to the task of kidnapping Donny's current lover Misbah Maalik. During this, Warren escapes prison with the help of Donny. Rex meets up with Dave who tells him he's planted a bomb under the car that Warren escaped in with Rex not realising it's the car who belongs to James Nightingale potentially putting Ste in danger.

Rex does his best to prevent an explosion and actually manages to get the bomb under James' car. However, Misbah tells Donny that Rex is Blue's right-hand man resulting in Donny confronting Rex and aiding the police in arresting him. As he's being arrested, Rex attempts to plea with P.C. Harvey that if she does not let him go that people will be in danger. Rex explains that Blue has planted bombs under some cars and he's managed to get one that being from James' car, however as Rex thinks Ste is safe, Donny gives him his car keys and the car explodes when James starts it, Rex watches on in the back of a police as a number of cars explode. A year on its revealed that the resulting explosion killed James and comatose Ste for a whole year.

Rex stays by Ste's side until he awakes from the coma a year later. It's also revealed that Rex is in fact Grace's half brother as he was the son of Fraser Black.

Freddie Roscoe, 11th July 2024 - Along with Ste Hay, tried to drown Freddie in a bath on the orders of Warren Fox, who believed Freddie was the gangster named 'Blue' who'd been targeting him, but was stopped by Grace Black.
Freddie Roscoe, 12th July 2024 (proxy) - Ordered Ste to bludgeon Freddie, along with Grace Black, with a wrench but they escaped when Leah Barnes and Freya Calder interrupted.
