Murphy is an old friend of Warren Fox from when he lived in Ibiza in the early 2000s. Murphy assisted Warren in his investigation to uncover who was driving the car that hit and killed his daughter Ella Richardson in January 2024, giving him a visiting order for Longmere Prison where drug dealer Kane was being held on remand for the crime. The next day, Warren found out from Kane that Ste Hay and James Nightingale were behind Ella's death and told Murphy, who planned their deaths at Warren's request. However, it was ultimately Warren's mother Norma Crow who trapped James, leading to his kidnapping. Murphy then helped Warren chase Ste and James to a roof top to which Warren pushed Ste from but he survives.
In April 2024, Murphy steals a gun from Freddie Roscoe and later threatens Freddie and his daughter when Freddie confronts him. Murphy later returns at Warren's request to force Sienna Blake to delete a confession tape of Warren admitting he threw Ste off a building. He held Sienna, Maxine Minniver, Liberty Savage and Dilly Harcourt hostage, with the help of Ste. After a brief scuffle, Murphy was shot by Maxine, however, non-fatally. After the incident, Murphy managed to evade the house, but was later found by Dilly unconscious nearby and was later taken to hospital to recover. Warren Fox orders Ste to kill Murphy before the police can speak to him. The next day Ste, wheels Murphy into a car and drives off. Ste manages to convince Warren that he killed Murphy but it turns out that he's still alive. Ste orders Murphy to get far away and never return or Warren will kill them both.
Murphy doesn't heed Ste's warnings as he returns some weeks later to Hollyoaks Village in a bid to rob from The Loft as he feels he's due a payment for the job he did for Warren. He is seen by Maxine who runs to Warren who tells her that Murphy will be dealt with. Murphy enters the Loft pretending to be armed with a gun in his pocket and holds Ste and Freddie hostage as he orders Ethan Williams to empty the till. Murphy then tries to flee but Warren catches up with him and physically attacks Murphy before kidnapping him along with Ste. After Ste is unable to shoot Murphy dead on Warren's command after a confrontation with Warren, Ste flees, leaving Murphy, who has been pleading for his life, alone with Warren. It is then revealed by Warren that he has killed Murphy to a shocked Maxine.
