Mike Bridgecroft was a social worker who visited Mercedes McQueen at The Cage in February 2022, after psychologist Honour Chen-Williams called social services. Mike was alarmed to walk in and hear Mercedes's son Bobby Costello say that Mercedes was only keeping him from school out of guilt for hurting his ankle. Mike told Mercedes about the reports from Bobby's school about his behaviours, with Mercedes lying that she had gone through the proper procedures to homeschool Bobby. As Mercedes became overly-defensive, Mike decided to speak to Bobby one-on-one.
After losing a game of chess to Bobby, Mercedes told her brother John Paul to take Bobby out so she could speak with Mike. Mike told Mercedes that he's confident that Bobby's injury was an accident, but can't leave things as they are due to the school's concerns. Mercedes angrily refused any extra assistance and demanded that Mike and social services keep away from her family. Mike made another visit later in the month, which went disastrously after Theresa McQueen furiously confronted Mercedes over Bobby pushing Kathleen-Angel McQueen off her bike. After separating the pair, Mike told Mercedes that he still had concerns and wanted to make a third visit.
In March 2022, Mike visited the McQueen family again after a call from doctor Misbah Maalik, arriving this time during a party for Bobby's aunt Wendy Blissett. Mercedes ignored Mike and ended up leaving, with the McQueens attempting to cover for her and telling Mike that she was stuck in the bathroom. Wendy, however, told Mike that Bobby was clearly unhappy with the McQueens and Mike suggested to the family that Bobby may benefit from staying with another family member. Mercedes decided to send Bobby to stay with Wendy, unaware that Wendy was planning on reuniting Bobby with her father Silas Blissett.
In February 2023, Mike oversaw Vicky Grant's move from Chester to Kent as her usual social worker, Keith, was on leave. Vicky had been placed in the care of Scott Drinkwell but on her mother's suggestion, requested to be moved to carers closer to where her mother resided in Margate. As an opportunity arose for Vicky to be placed short-term with carers in Kent, the move was greenlit and Vicky said goodbye to her friends and family before Mike took her away in a taxi.
