Melanie Price is the daughter of Kay Price and her employer Burton Phillips. Kay was murdered by an unknown assailant in August 2006 and Melanie's birth certificate was retrieved, revealing Burton is Melanie's father. In October 2006, Burton visited his sister, Sandra, who was also Melanie's adoptive mother.
