Matt was a colleague of Lynsey Nolan. Lynsey, returning to work, was having a stressful first day back and Matt helped her pick up some papers she had dropped. Lynsey was left smitten with him, with Matt telling her that at the last hospital he worked at, they cured hangovers by using the IV drips for 20 minutes. Matt hold Lynsey that he needed a place to stay, so she offered to let him live with them.
Lynsey's best friend and roommate Cheryl Brady was also left smitten by Matt. Matt let Cheryl down gently, but she pretended that he may have misread the signals and told him to check his ego. For the rest of the day, Cheryl acted cool towards Matt, leaving him uncomfortable. Lynsey tried flirting with Matt, pretending that the sink had malfunctioned and left her saturated. Matt figured out her plan when she said that she could take off her shirt.
Both rejected, Cheryl and Lynsey decided to ask him to leave, but Matt beat them to it. Matt revealed to Lynsey and Cheryl that he was gay and felt that it was too awkward to stay - but because of Brendan Brady. They had slept together, but now Brendan wanted him out of the house.
