Biography
Until 2024: Life Before Hollyoaks
Warren and Marie in 1993.
Young Marie had a two-month relationship with Warren Fox in the summer of 1993. However, after she told him that she was pregnant, he fled from her. She gave birth to a son, Joel Dexter, a few months later. In around 2001, Marie met Mick Cornus, who was abusive to both her and Joel. Marie later married Mick and had a son by him, Abe. In 2011, Joel beat Mick in defence of Marie, but Mick reported him to the police and Marie backed him up in fear of the repercussions. Joel ended up in prison and decided to track down Warren upon his release in November 2011.
In September 2012, Marie visited Joel on his birthday to tell him that she had finally left Mick, to his relief. Joel's girlfriend Theresa McQueen discovered that Marie had taken a serious beating by Mick and informed Joel. As Joel asked his mother about what happened, Mick himself showed up and forced her to return home with him. However, Mick was killed merely a week later: Brendan Brady had kidnapped him and hung him from a lighthouse in retaliation for his abuse towards Joel, but Joel accidentally pushed Mick off the balcony when Mick lunged for Brendan. Mick met a gruesome end at the hands of Simon Walker and Brendan disposed of his body, but confessed to police in March 2013.
In the years that followed, Marie became drunken, bitter and estranged from Joel, also serving time in prison. She had a son, Arlo, who went missing in 2023 and had supposedly been taken to France by his father Chris, but Marie was unable to find either of them.
2024-: Return
Marie made a surprise return to Hollyoaks in March 2024 after being released from prison, crashing Joel and his pregnant fiancée Leela Lomax's gender reveal party. Joel was unhappy to see his mother, who resolved to put things right with him. Encountering Warren for the first time in thirty years, the pair reconnected and ultimately slept together. Marie also made an enemy in Mercedes McQueen - who was pregnant by Warren - after stealing her red dress. After getting drunk at The Loft, Marie told Joel about Arlo's disappearance, unaware it had been orchestrated by Abe, and Chris's new wife Demi. Marie had a one-night stand with Freddie Roscoe. She was then angry with Abe for hiding Arlo from her and slapped Abe. She was then fuming to find out from Liberty Savage that Joel and Leela were getting married without her knowing. When Marie said Joel was just a sperm donor, Leela slapped her. Marie was devastated when Abe told her Joels new born son Noah Dexter had died of stillbirth. She supported Joel and then Leela when Leela kicked Joel out for accidentally washing Noah's blanket which smelled like Noah. In September 2024 Cleo McQueen crashed a motorbike into the McQueen's house after trying to escape from her abusive boyfriend Abe Fielding (who is also Marie's son) and she ended up falling off the bike and it still had the engine on and rammed into the McQueen house window, with the bike hitting Suzanne Ashworth and instantly killing her and the table leg smashes into Marie's stomach and stabs her. A few moments later Sally & Marie manage to get out of the house but Marie ends up collapsing in the village with her two sons Abe Fielding and Joel Dexter watch in shock. Marie ends up getting to the hospital but ends up having a cardiac arrest and passes away a few moments later. When Abe finds out he tells Cleo that she's killed his mother and tells her that he promises to make her pay.
However, after the time jump, it is revealed that Marie is alive and well and that Abe only said that she was dead to gaslight Cleo.
