Maddie Parker was the close friend of Jude Cunningham and the flame of Michael St. John Thomas, who became obsessed with her after their separation.
Biography[]
A good friend of Natasha Andersen, Dawn Cunningham and Louise Taylor, Maddie attended the latter's birthday in October 1995 with her then-boyfriend Tom Jenkins, who she split from not long afterwards. She also made friends with Tony Hutchinson after beating him in a computer game competition and taking him home afterwards. On Valentine's Day 1996, Maddie received a creepy card and began to feel watched. At the same time, Maddie's former flame Michael St. John Thomas arrived in the village to Maddie's annoyance. However, after reminiscing about their relationship, the pair reconciled, but Michael became abusive towards her. His demands over what she wore and his violent jealous reactions to seeing her with other men left Maddie alarmed and she broke up with Michael in December 1996.
After Michael sent her a wedding dress, Maddie and her friend/roommate Jude Cunningham (who Michael briefly dated) visited his parents to tell them that Michael was mentally ill. They initially refused to believe her, but were left concerned over the wedding dress. In February 1997, Michael kidnapped Jude and Maddie, attempting to force Maddie to elope with him to Loch Lomond. Michael became enraged when Maddie refused to wear the wedding dress and attempted to throw Jude from the roof. Maddie turned up in the dress and whilst Michael was distracted, Jude tried to escape from his clutches, causing Michael to fall to his death.
Returning to the village after staying with her mother, Maddie attempted to move forward by opening a restaurant, Parker's. However, she struggled with serious paranoia and ended up having a large number of locks installed on her flat's door. Jude began suffering from alcoholism, and the pair were left in danger when Jude accidentally started a fire and Maddie struggled to find the keys to unlock the door. Maddie decided to move back in with her mother, leaving Parker's in the hands of Jude.
