This page contains a list of characters who fall under the LGBTQ+ umbrella. This list includes non-heterosexual sexualities and diverse gender identities. However, it does not aim to specify or label a character's sexual orientation or gender identity in every case, as this is often open to interpretation (from a viewer's perspective). You can read more about a character's identity on their Wiki page. A brief note will be added where a character's inclusion is debatable or unclear.

As of 21st September 2024, 25.64% of the show's current eligible regular characters (i.e. assumed/confirmed to be age 13+, otherwise stated as LGBTQ+ or unanimously agreed for inclusion by admins) are members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Criteria for List Inclusion

For occasions where a character hasn't outright given a reason to be included on this list (such as coming out), the Hollyoaks Wiki is using the following criteria to decide whether to include them:

  • There must be evidence (on-screen or in reference) that the character has willingly and consensually taken part in romantic or sexual interest, attraction, interaction or contact with a character of the same sex that is romantically or sexually motivated and generally has done this on more than one occasion. On occasions where this was only implied (such as in the early stages of a character's journey), or is suggested to be a one-off or a mistake, their inclusion will be debated by the Wiki team.
  • The character must be given a proper name or a personal nickname, e.g. "Grace", "Mrs St. Claire", or "Bazz FM" - not "Shop Worker" or "Girl".
  • The character must be a speaking role - unless there is a reason why the character does not speak (e.g. non-verbal or mute), or they are otherwise highly significant.

Similarly, there are a few characters whom some may consider contenders for this list, but the Hollyoaks Wiki has decided to omit them. Some of the reasons why characters might not belong on this list are as follows:

  • Paedophilia, grooming, rape and non-consensual sex do not count, regardless of the sex, gender, sexuality or identity of the victim(s). Characters such as Seamus Brady, Mark Gibbs, Finn O'Connor or Buster Smith must not be included, as outside of their crimes, they do not meet the inclusion criteria set out above.
  • Interest in a character of the same sex must not be motivated by factors such as power, revenge, obsession, business interests, gaining trust or being blackmailed/emotionally manipulated. Characters such as Troy or Simon Walker must not be included, as their known interactions appear to be motivated by factors like these.
  • Characters who enjoy cross-dressing for non-LGBTQ+ reasons, such as Dylan Jenkins, do not belong on this list.
  • Characters who had a romantic/sexual interest in somebody of the opposite sex that ceases or does not continue when they later come out as transgender or non-binary, such as Imran Maalik, Bart McQueen or Oliver Morgan, do not belong on this list. Additionally, notable LGBTQ+ relationships should only be listed if both parties were aware it was an LGBTQ+ connection at the time, or came to be aware during the romance - not retroactively.
  • Characters without given names, such as "Guy in club" or "Solicitor", do not belong on this list.
  • Characters portrayed by actors who are playing themselves (i.e. celebrity cameos). The exception to this rule would be the rare occurrence when the character is treated as a proper character, appearing for a generous period and integrating with their environment in the same manner as fictional characters.
