John Stuart was a film course lecturer at Hollyoaks Community College. In May 2001, John had a dispute with student Dan Hunter over the campus's parking. John's colleague Ruth Osborne developed an attraction to him and the pair began dating. However, Ruth ended their relationship when she discovered that John had a young daughter, and decided to leave Hollyoaks for Northgate Mews.
