Joseph "Joe" Roscoe Sr. was the son of Sandy and the late Alan Roscoe. He was also the brother of Freddie and Ziggy Roscoe, the half-brother of Darren Osborne, Robbie and Jason Roscoe, the father of JJ Roscoe and Gabriel McQueen and the adoptive father of Lexi Roscoe.
After the death of his father, Alan. Joe took on the 'man of the house' role and stood up as an authority figure to each and everyone of his younger brothers and would do anything to ensure that his family was safe from any trouble that would come their way.
During his time in Hollyoaks village, Joe has faced a lot of obstacles in his relationship with both his family and personal relationships, Joe's main storylines centred around money trouble for the families business Roscoe's Motor Maintenance. His relationships to both Lindsey and Mercedes McQueen and in January 2014, Joe was seemingly killed off but by March 2014, Joe was revealed to be alive having been in a coma for two months but Joe's most heart-breaking story came in 2016 when Joe discovers that his baby to Mercedes, Gabriel McQueen was sadly a still born despite this his relationship with Mercedes grew stronger however Joe was sadly killed in November 2016 after a huge fall from a Ferris wheel which was purposely trapped by Joe's stalker Joanne Cardsley.
Biography[]
1984-2013: Backstory[]
Joe was thought to be the first born to Sandy however the family where unaware of Darren whom was in fact originally named Mark and was in fact Sandy's first. Joe was then joined by his two brothers in Freddie and Ziggy whom where all born to Alan Roscoe. Joe was said in his early years to have a temper and got into a number of fights this led Joe to join a boxing club before hand Joe also was no stranger to petty crimes. Alan would later sadly die leaving Joe to take on the authority figure role to his younger brothers.
Joe along with the rest of his family where joined by his half twin brothers Jason and Robbie by 1998 who were born to stepfather Rick Spencer and some point in the early 2000s, Joe met a young woman named Lindsey Butterfield and the two instantly took a liking to one another and would later begin a relationship. Joe was later stalked by Lindsey's sister Kim Butterfield, who became obsessed with him, but kept quiet when Kim threatened to kill herself if he told Lindsey. In 2006, Joe and Lindsey got engaged. On the night of their engagement party, Joe got drunk and was tricked by Kim into sleeping with her, thinking that she was Lindsey. Joe was shocked when Kim later told him that she was pregnant and told her to get an abortion, which she did. Joe later moved away to get as far away from Kim as possible.
2013: Arrival[]
Joe arrives with his family in May 2013 as Joe along with his family want a new fresh start from their old life. Its then seen that Joe is the older brother of already established characters Freddie and Robbie Roscoe. Joe instantly has a run in with Darren Osborne when he discovered that Darren had man handled his younger brother and twin to Robbie, Jason. Joe along with Freddie confronts Darren only to later in find out that his in fact their landlord and soon afterwards are joined with their other brother, Ziggy as well as mother Sandy.
By June 2013, Joe along with his family are joined by his girlfriend, Lindsey Butterfield who is also the new nurse at Dee Valley University Hospital. Joe soon runs into trouble with the mechanic business he runs known as Roscoe's Motor Maintenance, Joe needs £10,000 to save the business however is unable to get the cash he has multiple run ins with Paul Browning who is also Lindsey's boss and one point punches Browning after a car owned by Browning gassed out while Jason was inside. Joe is later delighted when Lindsey falls pregnant but loses the baby after accidentally being ran over by Frankie Osborne and this devastated Joe and Lindsay.
Joe eventually reverts to torch the garage after he loses a bet on a Horse he backed to win but just loses out Freddie attempts to stop Joe from setting fire to the garage which leads to the brothers having a fist fight with Joe coming out on top but is interrupted by Lindsey eventually the business is saved thanks to Jack Osborne. In July 2013, Joe has a run in with dangerous gangster Trevor Royle over Freddie and Joe ends up punching Trevor and afterwards Trevor begins to target the Roscoe family but Freddie gets him to back off by working for him. In August 2013, Joe meets Fraser Black whom eventually dates Sandy but Joe along with Freddie and Ziggy learned of their mother Sandy sleeping with Dodger Savage. In September 2013, Joe discovers that Darren is in fact his half brother while beating up Darren as he bad mouthed Sandy. Joe notices Lindsey acting out of character unaware that she is covering up a murder of Browning eventually Lindsey tells Joe that Browning attacked her and that she helped get rid of his body this leaves Joe in complete shock. Joe later sleeps with Darren's ex-wife Nancy Osborne and is outed on his wedding day to Lindsey.
2014: 'Death', Revenge on Fraser & Lindsey's Affair with Freddie[]
By January 2014, Joe's relationship with Lindsey is still being tested but his unaware that Freddie has been feuding with Fraser's daughter, Grace Black, Grace kidnaps Joe and puts him in an abandoned building that is due to have demolition and despite Freddie's best efforts to save Joe the building is destroyed with Joe inside, Fraser whom was revealed to be a gangland boss months ago tells both Freddie and Grace that Joe had died. This leads Freddie to lie to his family as well as Lindsey by saying Joe had found another woman and left. However, by March 2014, it was revealed that Joe was still alive and had been in a coma since the accident when Joe awakens he asks Trevor to help him escape so he can take down Fraser as he overheard Fraser and Grace talking and due to this found out who Fraser really is. Trevor suspects that Joe had Frasers book and he was right however Joe is freed by Trevor and Joe makes his way to Hollyoaks where he collapsed in the middle of the village and is taken to Dee Valley where both Freddie and Lindsay who have began some sort of relationship are shocked by Joe's sudden reappearance. Joe then awakens and exposes who Fraser is by punching Fraser and then revealing all to his mother Sandy about where his been the past three months.
Joe later strikes a deal with Trevor and Grace to kill Fraser although Joe expresses how much he hates Grace and that he knows she was the one whom put him in hospital Joe and Grace's bickering would then often cause a stir in their plans. Joe along with the two gangsters decide to gas out Fraser's limousine with Fraser inside however Joe has no idea that Fraser is meeting Sandy but Grace does and the car begins to be gassed and Sandy is just about saved by Fraser whom manages to escape the murder attempt. Joe discovers this and is furious with Grace. Later, as Fraser's enemies are racking up by April 2014 he is murdered and Joe is a suspect and is seen with blood on his shirt the next day its then later revealed that Joe did indeed fire the very gun that was used to kill Fraser however Joe and Fraser had a fight off screen where Joe managed to overcome Fraser and he picked up the gun only to fire at the tree far ahead however Freddie managed to get the bullet before the police could meaning Joe was taking to prison. While in prison Joe was targeted by Grace as she often sent men to beat Joe up while Joe proved to be a tough opponent he still was hospitalised later on Freddie sets up Sam Lomax whom has died by writing a confession letter with the help of her killer Cameron Campbell. Joe is then freed.
After his release, Joe begins to try and build his relationship back up with Lindsey and he seemingly does so however Joe is unaware of Lindsey and his brother Freddie are having an affair with one another. Joe is delighted when Lindsey is pregnant thinking the baby is his however Lindsey isn't so sure thankfully the test results reveal that the baby will he Joe's and Joe is delighted when Lindsey gives birth to a baby boy whom they name JJ Roscoe but by December 2014, Joe finally discovers the truth about Lindsey and Freddie and is left furious by their betrayal. Later that evening, Joe sees Jason's father Rick Spencer physically attacking Jason this leads Joe to furiously punch Rick which knocks Rick out cold as well as hospitalising him.
2015-2016: Rick's Death, Relationship with Mercedes McQueen and Death[]
After hospitalising Rick as a result of punching him while in hospital Rick is murdered by The Gloved Hand Killer by injecting Rick with Potassium Chloride causing a cardiac arrest and this made it look as so Rick died as a result of Joe punching him this leads to Joe to arrested for Rick's murder however Joe was released with out charge due to Jason telling them that it was in his defense however this angered Robbie. Joe is then later told by Grace that Freddie set him up for Fraser's murder months after Joe confronts Grace over pinning the supposed murder of Mercedes McQueen in Freddie. Grace gives Joe money and a ticket to France and when Joe arrives at France his surprised to see Mercedes answer the door at a remote home. Joe confronts Mercedes and argues with her for some time but he ends up sleeping with her and agrees to help or at the very least keep quiet over Grace setting up Freddie. By May 2015, Joe is left in an angry state when Mercedes returns and no one decides to take action against Freddie and after a stand off between Grace and Freddie, Joe picks up Grace's gun after Trevor had talked her down and points it too Freddie and although Joe fired the gun Mercedes defected the gun and unknown to the it hit Mercedes adopted niece Phoebe McQueen and like Rick Phoebe was murdered by the Glove Hand killer by being injected by Potassium Chloride and again made Joe look like the culprit and Robbie who was dating Phoebe punches Joe and attacks Joe with a crowbar which leaves Joe paralysed and start to use a wheelchair.
While in his wheelchair Joe is left shocked when Mercedes reveals that she is pregnant with his child after their one night stand they had months back at first Joe finds it hard to believe Mercedes but when he discovers that she's telling the truth Joe opts to support her through the pregnancy and the begin a relationship with one another but their relationship was not with out any obstacles when Joe discovered that Mercedes cheated on him with Lockie Campbell this leads Joe to call off his relationship with Mercedes and his left angry when Mercedes tells Joe that the baby isn't his anyways of course this is a lie but Joe not being able to seemingly take that news in he departs the village. Joe is shocked to learn of the deaths of supposedly Freddie but is left devastated at the death of Ziggy.
Joe returns in January 2016 in a heartfelt attempt to make up with Mercedes but Joe is soon left heartbroken when Robbie and Holly Cunningham break the news to Joe that Mercedes had the baby boy whom she would name Gabriel McQueen but he was sadly a still born after coming face to face with Mercedes after this devastating news Joe is taken to Gabriel's grave by Mercedes so he could say his goodbyes. Joe and Mercedes later reconcile their relationship. Joe along with Mercedes and Freddie are in total shock when they learn that Lindsey is the one who is responsible for the hospital killings in May 2016, Joe discovers with Freddie while Lindsey is given birth too Lexi Roscoe that Linsey has been working with Silas Blissett who want to kill Mercedes however when Joe and Freddie discover that Lindsey has fled and arrive him Joe discovers Lindsey's body after being murdered by Silas. After Lindsey's murder Joe and Mercedes adopt baby Lexi as Freddie cannot cope to be around her due to Lexi reminding him of Lindsey. Joe later proposes to Mercedes who eventually accepts but Joanne Cardsley has started harbouring an obsession with Joe and after she manages to break up Joe and Mercedes. Joe temporarily starts a relationship with Joanna however when he finds out from Louis Loveday what Joanna is really like Joe ends their short lived relationship and after a lot of making up with Mercedes they eventually reconcile once again but by November 2016, Joe and Mercedes attend the local spooktacular and board a Ferris wheel which malfunctions due to being purposely stopped by Joanna this leads Joe to attempt to jump to safety but falls from a great height this leads Joe to be comatose but Mercedes along with Freddie are told there is brain activity and Joe dies when they agree to turn off his life support.

- Fraser Black, 17th April 2014 - Conspired with Grace Black and Trevor Royle to gas Fraser in his car, with Joe unaware that his mother, Sandy Roscoe, would also be with him but Grace called her father to warn him at the last moment, resulting in only Sandy being affected by the gas. She was taken to hospital and recovered.
- Fraser Black, 22nd April 2014 - After beating up Fraser, Joe picks up Fraser's gun and goes to shoot him but instead decides not to and shoots at a tree instead.
- Rick Spencer, 31st December 2014 - When Rick is being aggressive towards his son and Joe's younger brother Robbie, Joe punches Rick which causes him to fall backwards and bang the back of his head.
- Freddie Roscoe, 19th May 2015 - Joe goes to shoot Freddie but only is stopped by Mercedes McQueen when she pushes Joe's arm.
