Jill Osborne (previously Patrick) is the late wife of Jack Osborne, widower of Mr. Patrick, and mother of Kate, Sol and Gina Patrick and Joe Johnson.
Biography[]
1997-1999: Arrival and Family Troubles[]
Widower Jill Patrick arrived in the village in October 1997 for the barmaid job at The Dog in the Pond, soon followed by her three children: Kate, Sol and Gina Patrick. Jill and landlord Jack Osborne felt a mutual attraction but Jill's children struggled to get along with Jack's daughter Ruth, whilst Sol took exception to Jack's former career as a policeman. Upon learning of the family's problems, Jack allowed them to move into 1 Stockton Lane. However, the house was attacked by the Williamses, a criminal family part of an investigation into a stabbing Gina had witnessed. After Gina was arrested for failing to testify in court, Jill made plans for the family to leave, only for Jack to change her mind and propose to her.
Jill accepted and - despite the continuing clashes of their families - married Jack in March 1998. Not long afterwards, Jill met Kate's boyfriend Richard Morgan, discovering he was much older and married. Jill expressed her disapproval and nearly drove Kate away until Richard stood her up as they planned to leave together. Jill and Jack supported Sol as he was accused of playing a role in Mandy Richardson's disappearance, leading Sol to confess that he and Paul Millington had been joyriding, resulting in him receiving community service.
After Jack's daughter Ruth Benson learned of Kate's affair with her husband Kurt, she revealed during a fight that she didn't have the same father as Sol and Gina. Kate confronted Jill and Jill revealed that her father's name was Dave Johnson, but advised her not to search for her father. Kate searched for him anyway and Jill ended up reunited with her long lost son, Kate's twin brother Joe. She then revealed to Sol and Gina that they're not her biological children: she adopted them after the suicide of their mother Louise.
Both Gina and Sol took the revelation badly and Gina went missing. Whilst searching for her, Sol started driving erratically during an argument and crashed into Store TwentyFour whilst swerving to avoid a bus. Jill was left seriously injured whilst Sol was wracked with guilt, and Gina blamed Jill when Sol confessed to the police. However, in the lead-up to Sol's trial, Jill managed to convince Gina to return home. The pair were left devastated when Sol was sentenced to four weeks imprisonment. Upon his release, Jill tried to comfort Sol as he behaved differently in the aftermath of his cellmate's suicide.
1999-2000: Diagnosis and Death[]
The return of Jack's son Darren in September 1999 resulted in a bigger family rift as he and Sol would goad and fight with each other constantly. Things were intensified when Ruth discovered that Kate and Joe were having an affair, and Jill didn't believe her until Ruth was proven right. After another massive family argument, Jill accused Jack of constantly siding against her and left him. However, Jack managed to convince her to return a few weeks later.
The next family drama arose when Gina came out as a lesbian. The family refused to accept her sexuality, with Jill claiming it was a "phase" with her "best friend" Emily Taylor. Meanwhile, a confrontation too many between Jack and Sol resulted in Jack throwing Sol onto the streets. This resulted in a serious strain on Jack and Jill's marriage, and Jill slept with Kate's father Dave Johnson whilst attending Joe's wedding. She confessed to Jack and left him again, but returned in June 2000 after being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. Jack accepted Jill back and sent Darren back to his mother when he accused Jill of lying.
After an assessment in the United States revealed that the tumour was truly inoperable, Jill started to try come to terms with her death. After a holiday with Sol and Gina in Blackpool, Jill died from her illness in October 2000. Jack soon found comfort in Jacqui Hudson, to the fury of his family. A few weeks after Jill's funeral, Kate left the village for good.
2001-2017: Aftermath[]
In April 2001, Sol went on the run with girlfriend Jess Holt after her brother Steve threatened to frame Sol for his balcony fall, leaving Jack feeling that he failed Jill. In May 2001, following her split from Emily, Gina accepted a job at an orphanage in China, hoping to make Jill proud. In May 2008, Jack sold Jill's ring - the last of her belongings he had, to try cover his debts. In June 2010, Jack talked about Jill's battle when his step-daughter Steph was diagnosed with cervical cancer. In November 2017, Jack remembered Jill after the death of his third wife, Frankie Osborne.
