Not to be confused with the behind-the-scenes documentary series: Hollyoaks: Access All Areas.
Hollyoaks: Access All Areas (2000) is a companion piece of Hollyoaks which aired on Wednesday 5th July 2000.
It was alternatively titled Hollyoaks: The Naughty Bits, and was a documentary presented by James Redmond and Natalie Casey, discussing sexual matters and reviewing how these have been reflected on in the programme. The documentary was made as part of Channel 4's "Generation Sex season" in July 2000.
Synopsis
Plot
The documentary began with an interview with then-series producer Jo Hallows, followed by a repeat of scenes from Episode 134 (28th August 1997) surrounding Carol Groves losing her virginity to Tony Hutchinson. Next came an interview with Mikyla Dodd and Matt Littler about their views on sex and virginity, based on the Chloe Bruce/Max Cunningham story in Hollyoaks: Breaking Boundaries.
The next topic raised was of protection, primarily surrounding Cindy Cunningham's Teenage Pregnancy. Clips were shown of Cindy preparing to throw herself down a flight of stairs in October 1997, Cindy going into labour in Got It Taped in Episode 169 (22nd December 1997), and Cindy attempting to suffocate baby Holly in Episode 198 (9th April 1998). Natalie Casey then interviewed actor Stephanie Waring over the storyline, featuring actress Karis Sharkey and Karis's mother Colette.
The third topic raised was diseases, featuring an interview with Nick Pickard over Tony Hutchinson's STI scare storyline. Clips featured were of Tony's various sexual encounters in Ibiza from 1996, and Kurt Benson and Bazz discovering that he has crabs. Afterwards came a feature of most of the young female cast having a conversation about kissing and sex.
The fourth topic was consent, featuring an interview with Sarah Dunn over Mandy Richardson's rape storyline. Clips featured were Dennis Richardson hitting Mandy over modelling for the Riverbank College magazine in Episode 155 (3rd November 1997), and Mandy telling her brother Lewis Richardson that Dennis raped her in Episode 252 (13th October 1998). Afterwards came a feature of most of the young male cast having a conversation about sex. James Redmond then interviewed Gary Lucy over Luke Morgan's rape storyline, accompanied by Hollyoaks: Breaking Boundaries writer Neil Jones.
