Biography[]
1997-1999: Arrival and Family Secrets[]
Gina arrived in Hollyoaks in November 1997. Her mother Jill began dating Jack Osborne and moved into 1 Stockton Lane with Gina and her siblings. However, the Patricks were tracked down by the Williams crime family: Gina had witnessed a stabbing perpetrated by Kirsty Williams and was called upon as a witness. After her sister Kate was threatened with acid, Gina decided against showing up to court. She was arrested and forced to testify nonetheless.
After the court case, Jack and Jill got engaged. Gina was the only one of her siblings not to have an issue with Jack or his daughter Ruth. After the wedding, Kate introduced the family to her boyfriend, Richard Morgan. Gina and her brother Sol discovered that Richard was married and told Kate. Gina started studying at HCC in 1998 and met Emily Taylor as they competed for a position at Hollyoaks FM. However, Gina's life soon took a dramatic turn when Kate's search for her biological father led to Jill revealing that Sol and Gina were adopted. After learning that their biological mother had died by suicide, Sol and Gina ran away from home.
Sol and Jill were left seriously injured in a car crash whilst looking for Gina. However, Sol's confession to the police that the car was stolen led to Gina blaming Jill. They eventually reunited when Jill convinced her to return home. Gina disapproved of Kate's twin brother Joe Johnson living at 1 Stockton Lane and tried to get rid of him when Sol was released, to no avail. Sol struggled to settle back into normality, with Gina providing him with extra support. Gina's relationship with Ruth also took a turn when she proved to be a great help on the college newspaper.
1999-2001: Relationship with Emily and Departure[]
Jack and Jill began having marital issues, worsened by the return of Jack's troublemaking son Darren Osborne. After a series of arguments, Jill decided to move out with Sol and Gina. Gina was unhappy with the situation and spent more time at college with Emily. The pair grew closer and Gina began having feelings for her. Sol's friend Paul Millington caught them kissing on Millenium Eve and told Jill. Ruth was the only one initially supportive of Gina, but Jack soon came around. Darren, however, used Gina's sexuality against her when she competed with Darren's friend Steve Simpson for the campaign officer position at the college. He publicly outing her, vandalised her posters, and interfered in her relationship with Emily.
Gina lost the election and was comforted by Sol, who finally accepted her and Emily. However, as the damage done by Darren took its toll, a confused Gina turned to Paul for comfort. After Paul rejected her, Gina and Emily reunited, only to discover that they had both applied for the editor position on the college newspaper. They both lost out to Ed and reconciled once more. When Sol was made homeless by Jack, Gina tried to support him, causing issues with Emily when she caught him stealing from her.
In July 2000, Jill was diagnosed with a brain tumour. After contacting doctors in the United States, Jill's tumour was officially declared inoperable. The ordeal reunited Gina and Emily, as well as the Osbornes and Patricks (aside from Darren, who was ostracised for accusing Jill of faking her illness). Jill died merely two months later. To add to her grief, Sol's girlfriend Jess Holt - a prostitute on the run from her pimp Steve - moved in with the family. On New Year's Eve, Steve set The Dog in the Pond ablaze.
When Jess fled once more, Gina helped Sol in the search for her. After Sol smashed the car of one of Jess's clients, Steve kidnapped Gina. He soon released her, but the ordeal prompted Jess to report Steve to the police. Steve was released on bail, and Sol left the country with Jess when she pushed Steve off The Loft's balcony, devastating Gina. Not long afterwards, Gina discovered that Emily was unfaithful and broke up with her. After helping fundraise for an orphanage in China, Gina decided to move across to work there, believing it would've made Jill proud.
