Gemma Bissix is an English actress who portrayed Clare Devine - taking over the role from Samantha Rowley - from April 2006 to September 2007. She made returns in 2009 and 2013, and most recently portrayed the role from May 2025 to October 2025.
Bissix auditioned for five characters on Hollyoaks before being offered the chance to audition for Clare. Bissix initially rejected the audition, however her agent refused to take no for an answer. Bissix auditioned for a character named "Fiona", but discovered that she was auditioning for a role that was to be re-cast.
Notable for her regular role as Clare Bates in EastEnders, Bissix has also appeared in The Crust, Britannia High, Mongrels, Doctors and Crime Stories.
