Synopsis

Darren struggles to do right by both his children. Freddie offers Mercedes a solution to her chemotherapy shortage. Robbie's plans to propose to Vicky are derailed by Ethan.

Plot

Robbie wakes a sleeping Vicky in The Loft, and Ethan wakes Frankie, who is asleep at the bar. Darren arrives to take Frankie to the hospital. Misbah checks in on Mercedes, who shares her worries about leaving her kids without a mother. Misbah promises to try her best to source the drugs. Mercedes asks John Paul to look after her children if it comes to that. Rex arrives at The Love Boat to drop off medication for Lexi from Freddie's contact. Freddie challenges a nearby Robbie for causing issues during a recent social worker meeting, but Robbie claims he just wants to make sure his niece is safe. Robbie infers he'll be attending the next meeting too, to convey all the reasons Lexi should be living with him, not Freddie. Darren tries to reason with Frankie and convey how JJ's illness complicates things. Frankie disagrees, stating that it does not negate everything he did to her. Despite his insistence that he's just trying to do the right thing, Frankie tells Darren that, while he can see JJ if he wants to, she will not.

Lexi appears to not be fond of Vicky when Robbie talks about her being family. Lexi gets upset when she learns Robbie doesn't want Freddie and Grace at his wedding. JJ is surprised when Darren visits him in hospital, and asks if he'll be able to go "home". Darren reminds JJ of the rules, and JJ admits to hating his foster home, fearing his illness, feeling lonely and needing a hug. Darren, unable to provide the comfort JJ is asking for, leaves the room as JJ sobs. Outside Casa McQueen, Mercedes reminds Frankie that Darren is a good father, who is doing his best. Robbie brings Lexi back to the garage, and she tells Freddie about Robbie's proposal plans. Robbie tells Freddie that Lexi keeps getting upset over them fighting, and they agree to a tentative truce. Grace visits Mercedes with the intention of celebrating the chemotherapy success, forcing Mercedes to inform her that it didn't work, and about the alternative drug shortage. Later, Freddie tells Mercedes that he had a similar issue with Lexi's epilepsy medication and offers to ask his supplier about Mercedes' chemo drugs.

Ethan discovers Darren may not be able to attend his wedding due to JJ's treatment. Ethan understands, assigns Maxine as his new "best man", and thanks Darren for helping him through his struggles, before saying goodbye when Frankie enters. Darren acknowledges Frankie's self-harm scars, and assures her that she's his priority. At The Love Boat, Ethan overhears Robbie's plans to propose to Vicky, and infers to Freddie that it's not a good idea. In The Dog, Robbie gets the crowd's attention and gets down on one knee, just as Freddie arrives and reveals Vicky is still chasing Ethan. In her bedroom, Frankie videocalls with Lucas, telling him about JJ's illness, and reveals her intention to drop the charges against him, so that her being raped isn't the only thing people remember.
