Synopsis

Leela finds out more about Joel's recent drug usage, James wavers on whether or not to tell Ste the truth, and Mercedes' twins are taken after Dave finds out Warren may get released from prison.

Plot

Leela and Marie discuss Joel's overdose, then arrive at his hospital room to discover he's woken up. Ste knows something is going on with James, due to the lies about Jez and the updated will, but gets interrupted when he tries to initiate a kiss. Dave messages Rex to inform him of Warren's alibi, while Cindy wonders why the gun was found in Warren's house. Cindy receives another message from Jude, then speculates that Warren will come after whoever set him up. Dave distracts her by suggesting they celebrate with Mercedes. Joel explains he started using again after Noah's funeral. Leela leaves when she discovers it wasn't a one-off, and that Joel has been using in the house. Rex and Dave meet in private to discuss how to stop Warren's release. Jez asks James if he's had a MRI, and James says he's waiting on an appointment, but "knows" his body. Jez encourages James to be honest with Ste, but James replies he doesn't want to Ste to experience loss. Jez suggest Ste might appreciate any time he has left with James.

At the celebration, Donny suggests Vicky could babysit the twins to allow Mercedes to enjoy herself. Dave messages Rex to inform him Mercedes will be alone soon. Joel finds Leela in the hospital, and tries to explain that he didn't want to burden Leela further. Leela learns that Mercedes helped Joel cheat his drug test for work, then blackmailed him into providing an alibi for Warren. Dilly finds Ethan trying to cover up a hickey, and asks about him and Vicky. Ethan claims it shouldn't have happened and was a one-off, assuming Vicky doesn't want anything serious. Dilly suggests asking Vicky what she wants, instead of assuming. Leela finds Mercedes at The Love Boat and slaps her for manipulating and blackmailing Joel. James finds Ste, Leah and Lucas outside Casa McQueen, and asks to speak to Ste before receiving a phone call confirming his MRI scan for that afternoon. When Ste then asks what he wanted to talk about, James tells him to hurry up and sign the divorce papers. Mercedes approaches Leela outside The Dog, and apologises about Joel, but not for her actions to save her family. Leela berates herself for not noticing Joel was struggling, but Mercedes reminds her they are both grieving. Mercedes empathises over baby loss, but encourages Leela not to let it define her, and to fight for her family.

Leela returns to the hospital as Joel is discharging himself. Joel acknowledges he shouldn't have provided the alibi, but Leela understands he didn't want to lose Warren. Joel states he doesn't want to lose Leela either, and agrees to go into a drug programme. DS Peel arrives and arrests Joel for perversion, as CCTV shows he was in Price Slice for at least 20 minutes of the 2-hour window he claimed to be with Warren for. Someone is watching Vicky, Maria-Gabriella and Maria-Carmela, from the bushes at the park. Ethan arrives and asks Vicky on a coffee date, to which Vicky agrees. Vicky then discovers the twins have been taken. Ste decides to finally sign the divorce papers, as James checks in for his MRI. Vicky calls Donny, panicking about the missing twins, then Mercedes receives a ransom message for them. It is revealed that Dave and Rex have the babies, and plan to use them to make Warren and Mercedes co-operate.
