Synopsis
Joel gives Warren a false alibi, a discovery made by Maxine throws doubt upon James' true intentions, and Abe's actions isolate Cleo further from her family.Plot
Mercedes asks Joel to give Warren an alibi. The police have narrowed Norma's time of death down to a 16-hour window; Warren is unaccounted for for two of these hours. Mercedes resorts to blackmail, telling Joel if he doesn't provide Warren with an alibi, she'll tell Leela about his heroin use. Leela becomes accusatory when she sees them together. Sienna comes across Ste confronting Jez and finds out Jez slept with James. Although Sienna tries to convince Ste to speak to James and save his marriage, Ste decides he's going to sign the divorce papers. Abe lies to John Paul about Cleo's behaviour again, and continues to make out she is a liar. Joel goes after Leela to convince her there is nothing going on between him and Mercedes. Leela feels paranoid, believing they are hiding something from her.
Maxine confronts James over why he's made Ste, Leah and Lucas the sole beneficiaries in his will. Abe tells Cleo he's called in sick for her, so he can get her pregnant. John Paul visits and sees the ovulation test, asking Abe if they're trying for a baby. In The Loft, Dilly locks Ethan and Vicky in the office, fed up with their fruitless flirting. Leela is horrified to discover that Joel has made a statement to DS Peel, saying he was with Warren the night of Norma's death. Abe tells John Paul that having a baby is Cleo's idea, and he's worried Cleo will leave him if he doesn't go along with it. John Paul states he doesn't think it's a good idea, then, when he leaves, Abe tells Cleo her family are weird and interfering. Abe decides to push on with their plans to have a baby, directing a reluctant Cleo to the bedroom. Locked in the office, Ethan and Vicky kiss and proceed to sleep with each other.
Leela accuses Joel of letting himself be controlled by Warren, but Joel admits it was orchestrated by Mercedes. Leela reminds Joel that Warren won't be able to corroborate the story if he doesn't know about it, so decides to visit him at prison. Sienna finds out from Jez that he and James didn't sleep together, but wonders why James would suggest otherwise. Leela tells Warren that Joel has provided him with a false alibi, against Warren's wishes. They agree the story that Warren and Joel spent two hours talking on the city wall is ridiculous. Warren stresses that Joel is having a tough time, and needs to know people care about him and that he's doing the right thing, otherwise he won't cope. Meanwhile, in Casa McQueen, Joel makes a phone call to his dealer, before making eye contact with Cleo. John Paul almost gets Cleo to open up about not wanting a baby, but Abe turning up and John Paul leading her towards him, causes Cleo to snap. John Paul admits defeat, and a disconnected Cleo departs with Abe.
Jez checks in on James, asking why he doesn't just tell Ste the truth. James admits his doesn't want to hurt Ste; that his relationship with Ste was different than any other in his life. Sienna stops Ste from signing the divorce papers, revealing James didn't sleep with Jez, and Maxine informs him of the change made to James' will. James tells Jez he doesn't want to be a burden, and can't tell the "love of his life" he has a brain tumour. Leela finds Joel collapsed on the back road, and calls an ambulance, reporting an overdose. Having slept together, Ethan calls it a "perfect end to summer", while Vicky refers to it as the "perfect start to us".Cast
