Synopsis
The Osbornes celebrate JJ signing his contract, but when JJ breaks his promise, Frankie finally reveals the truth to Darren. Diane and Ro argue, leading Diane to turn to alcohol again.Plot
Suzanne and Darren are still arguing, but agree to put things aside for today, as JJ is signing his contract. Suzanne has arranged for The Chester Herald to do a story on JJ and his family. At The Dog, Tony has called Dave as the electricity has gone off downstairs. Tony is preparing for JJ's party, so Diane agrees to speak to Ro about the photograph. Darren informs Nancy he thinks Frankie is hiding something. Nancy can tell there is something wrong with Frankie, and she encourages Darren to work out what it is. Ro confides in Diane that he found it easy to talk to and trust "Ash". Diane is hurt Ro couldn't speak to her or Tony. Ro explains he had to do something, as his body is changing in ways he doesn't want it to. Diane suggests finding an alternative to binding, as Ro is too young to understand the risks. Ro becomes frustrated that Diane is only seeing the problems, but not seeing him.
At the football stadium, JJ signs his contract. JJ and Frankie speak of their dreams coming true, and Frankie reveals her excitement at moving away, but becomes uncomfortable when JJ suggests visiting. The family get called for a photo, and Darren witnesses Frankie flinch when JJ puts his arm around her. Ro tries to downplay what "Ash" has done, but Diane attempts to educate Ro on how much hatred there will be against him, which she can't protect him from. Ro suggests Diane's real issue is how people will react to him, which Diane impulsively agrees with. Diane explains she's just scared for Ro, but Ro says Diane can't be the mother he wants.
JJ approaches Frankie in the changing rooms, wanting to "celebrate". Frankie becomes fearful and tries to escape but is pulled back. JJ implies she'll never be rid of him, saying he's the one they all love, whilst she's impossible to love. As Frankie gets more upset, JJ gets more riled up, and Frankie knees him in the groin, locking herself in a toilet cubicle. JJ becomes more aggressive in trying to break the door down, but Frankie signs for help from Oscar through the window. Diane pours wine into a mug, then asks for Dave's opinion on supporting a trans child. Dave suggests it's trendy nowadays, which is rebutted by Kitty. Oscar takes Darren to the changing room. JJ tells him Frankie has got herself stuck, and Frankie plays along. Darren asks Oscar why he made out it was an emergency, and Frankie pretends to free herself.
Outside The Dog, Ro tells Anthony he believes the "Ash" situation is his fault, but Anthony retorts that "Ash" is the one with the problem. The Osbornes arrive at The Dog, and Tony invites them upstairs for the celebration. Frankie remains downstairs, but Darren picks up on her demeanour. Upstairs, Darren makes up a plate to bring down to Frankie. Diane is unsteady on her feet, and Tony realises she has wine in her mug. A struggling Diane says that, as a failed wife and a failed mother, drinking is the only thing she's good at. Anthony and Ro can hear Diane's outburst from outside. Anthony tearfully admits having known who "Ash" is all along. Alone with Frankie, Darren tries to encourage Frankie to open up. Frankie is surprised to hear Darren say he loves her, but it makes her feel safe enough to confide in Darren that JJ has been sexually abusing her.Cast
