Synopsis
Joel struggles with his diagnosis. Lacey helps Maxine when Minnie is discriminated against. Oscar and Brooke give Yazz a well-needed confidence boost with her hearing aids.Plot
Joel sits in a hospital bed with Leela and Warren at his side. Lacey is cut off by a taller man in the queue at Price Slice. Yazz walks into Tom with a tray, having not seen nor heard him. Joel drinks excessive amounts of water and repeatedly needs the bathroom. After Warren and Leela leave, Sharon tells him that he has type one diabetes. Maxine is enraged when Minnie isn't allowed in the pool at Dee Valley Leisure Centre for alleged "health and safety reasons". She decides to sue and James agrees to take on her case.
Sharon introduces Joel to diabetes specialist nurse Carl. Carl tells Joel about the lifestyle changes he will have to make. Yazz struggles with lipreading what Tom is saying. Oscar overhears her shouting about not wanting her hearing aids. Lacey asks James to reconsider representing Maxine. Joel snaps at Leela and decides to end things with her. Yazz reveals that she stopped wearing her hearing aids after Dave called her "grandma". She decides to wear her new hearing aids when Oscar and Brooke praise them.
Maxine starts an online campaign against the leisure centre. Lacey advises Maxine to get Minnie to talk instead of fighting her battles for her, then decides to speak to the lifeguard herself. Sharon tries to encourage Joel to talk to his family. Lacey introduces Minnie and Maxine to Shauna Hogan. Yazz is happy with her hearing aids in. Lacey speaks to lifeguard Gabby and manages to convince her to let Minnie into the pool. Sharon is unimpressed when Joel lies to Warren and Leela about his condition.Cast
