Synopsis

Charlie's house party gets underway. Dave's hurt to hear Honour expressing her disappointment in him to her sister. Darren grows jealous over Beau and Nancy's friendship.

Plot

Ella and Leah confirm their attendance for Charlie's house party. Charlie can't understand how the party's been leaked on social media. Beau's excited about the work Christmas party, which Nancy finds cute. Honour tells Dave they are to put on fake smiles. Darren's insecurity over Beau hanging out with Nancy shows. Leah hopes to convince DeMarcus that they're meant to be together. Serena suggests to Mason they go to Charlie's house party with Shing Lin. DeMarcus covers the CCTV at Price Slice so that Charlie can take food and alcohol and only pay £34.

Mei Lian senses that Honour's lying about her husband's occupation. Nancy and Beau dance together at the Christmas party, witnessed by Darren, who makes a remark to Diane. Honour admits the truth about Dave's job to Mei Lian, adding that her husband's been lying to her for years. Shing Lin arrives at Charlie's house party and proposes an icebreaker game of 'Never Have I Ever' with DeMarcus, Charlie, Mason and Leah. Charlie tries showing Mason up in the game with "never have I ever had sex". The party continues and Charlie then finds himself in the firing line when Ella catches him kissing Shing Lin. Meanwhile, Leah's embarrassed when she's rejected by DeMarcus.

Dave overhears Honour expressing her disappointment in him to her sister and makes it clear how upset he is by her remarks. Mason comforts Ella but then tries kissing her, so she pushes him away. She tells him she wouldn't get with him if he was the last person on Earth. Mason phones Serena to leave a voicemail but is distracted when Leah walks into the bedroom for a lie down. He forgets to stop the voicemail recording. Honour apologises to Dave for what he said. He tells her about the restraining order and that he and Flora are actually still married. Mason takes a picture of Leah on the bed and then publicly declares at the party that they just slept together.

Translations

This episode contained dialogue between Honour and Mei Lian spoken in Malay Cantonese. Below are translations of these scenes, thanks to Hulahoop1000.

Honour: "How did it go with Mason?"

Meng Chye: "He wasn't really interested."
Honour: "Thanks for trying."
Meng Chye: "It's OK."
Mei Lian: (in Malay Cantonese) "Hey."
Honour: "Hmm?"
Mei Lian: (in Malay Cantonese) "When was the last time you cooked Chinese food?"
Honour: "Oh, Dave does all the cooking here."
Mei Lian: (in Malay Cantonese) "Is that so?" (in English) "We're going to Liverpool. You can't cook with this." (in Malay Cantonese) "This soy sauce is for English people."

— First Scene
Meng Chye: "David. How's the empire?"

Dave: "It's Dave. Call me Dave."
Honour: "I think you might need a shower before dinner."
Dave: "Do I?"
Honour: "Hmm. Put on your nice shirt." "He has been rushed off his feet since the pandemic."
Mei Lian: "You don't need to keep lying about him."
Meng Chye: "Mei!"
Mei Lian: (in Malay Cantonese) "What's the problem?" (in English) "It's obvious Dave isn't some big CEO."
Honour: "That is ridiculous. Why would I need to lie about Dave?"

— Second Scene
Mei Lian: "I always knew there was something off about him."

Honour: "He used to have ambitions. He wanted to set up his own logistics company. But he put that aside so that I could go back to work."
Mei Lian: "I still don't understand why you had to lie."
Honour: "He's a postman... OK, fine, a courier. He's not ambitious like Meng Chye. Like what would Mum and Pa say?"
Mei Lian: (in Malay Cantonese) "But aren't you happy?"
Honour: "I don't know why I'm defending Dave. He's been lying to me for years."

— Third Scene
Honour: "It's not about the money. It's Dave." (in Malay Cantonese) "Our life has always been about family."

Mei Lian: (in Malay Cantonese) "I'm family. I could have helped."
Honour: "You? With your fancy career and your private schools, and your nannies. How would you have helped? Apart from gossip about my sad life and postman husband."
Mei Lian: "I wouldn't do that."
Honour: "Oh, yeah, please. So, I told a few lies about Dave. He has let me down in more ways than you can possibly imagine."
Mei Lian: "Talk to me," (in Malay Cantonese) "big sister."
Dave: "I didn't realise you were so ashamed of me, and our life together."
Honour: "Dave..."
Dave: "I know I've made some mistakes... but at least I'm proud of our family."
