Synopsis
Misbah reaches breaking point, and as memories from her past come flooding back, it isn't long before her family learn what's been troubling her.Plot
Yasmine finds Misbah's hair tikka and decides she will wear it to the hospital ball. Misbah is haunted by the tikka and, trying to ignore its significance to her past trauma, heads off to find Imran, who has stayed at Sid's for the night. Mikey's off the hook for his assault charge thanks to James. Verity opens up to Sami about Shaq's behaviour last night. A young couple bring memories of Misbah's past with Ali flooding back. She finds Imran in the bazaar and the pair make up. Imran admits to Misbah he didn't get into university, but Misbah's distracted with her own thoughts. She then becomes jittery when Ali wears to the ball the same suit that she used to like him wearing when they were at university together.
At the ball, Sami wants to have words with Shaq, but Verity dissuades him. Yasmine senses something might be up with Misbah. James is arrested on suspicion of common assault as he gives his speech, threatening the merger. Misbah is next up to give her speech. It starts out well, but quickly goes downhill, as her concealed trauma takes hold of her and she starts to go off-script. At the same time, Sami and Shaq bicker. Misbah tries to stop them but Ali thinks they should have it out. One of his remarks plays on Misbah's mind and she ends up walking home, her family following close behind and asking her if she is okay. Toby asks Ali what is up with Misbah.
Both Misbah and Ali recall their history with each other whilst they were at university. Misbah explains that she had a crush on Ali, while Ali tells Toby he should have kept professional boundaries but didn't, and after they slept together, she fell pregnant and wanted to wed him. He states they drifted apart after she dropped out of university for a year and feels awful that she's continuing to punish herself. Yasmine asks Misbah about her hair tikka, and discovers it was worn on the night Shaq was conceived. Yasmine's questioning pushes Misbah to breaking point and her family realise that she was raped. Shaq's sickened and heads back to the ball to confront Ali. Ali claims she had a crush on him but a furious Shaq sees through Ali's lies and picks up a vase. Meanwhile, at the Maalik household, Misbah comes to terms with the fact that she was raped.Cast
