Episode 481 is an episode of Hollyoaks which aired on Wednesday 12th July 2000.

Synopsis

Sam makes a decision about his future, and only has Alex to say goodbye to. Luke learns that the rape case will be going to the crown court. Sol tries to find a way to save Jill's life. A gambling win for Lewis secures Ruth's future, whilst Tony gets revenge on Finn.

Plot

Ruth gets uncomfortable seeing Lewis with Tom. Finn starts to set up the yard for the ball. Alex points out that if Sam leaves, then he will have wasted a year at college. Sam says that if he stays, he will have wasted three. Zara keeps asking about the committal, to Sue and especially Luke's annoyance. Carol is annoyed about the location of her stall. Finn is furious that Tony wants him to pay £100 more for the catering. He is angry when Matt hasn't sorted the DJ set as Matt thought Finn would have sorted it all. Finn is stunned when he learns that Jill has an inoperable tumour and realises that he needs to apologise to Sol. Luke learns that Mark, Stephen and Kenny have had bail applications denied and the case will be going to the crown court.

Lewis surprises Ruth with £3,000 - he won it at the horse racing. Ruth is uncertain as to whether to take it. Sol shows Jill about a clinic in America that saved someone with a hard-to-reach tumour, Jill doesn't believe that the clinic would help. She is dying and they both have to accept it. Finn continues to stress over the ball. Jill tells Sol that the tumour is right by her brain stem and if they remove it, she will probably die regardless. Ruth tells Lewis that she pitched an article to a magazine and could receive up to £400. Lewis finds Ruth's work, which is about abortion; he is upset as he didn't realise that she was grieving over the baby.

Zara is annoyed when she is told that she can't go on the holiday. Sam has decided to leave, leaving Alex disappointed. Finn is annoyed when Carol shouts at him over her stall location. Sam says goodbye to Alex, Alex says that if Sam leaves then he doesn't want to speak to him. He realises that he can't change Sam's mind and they hug. Ruth has decided to go for a PhD. Finn is incensed to learn that Tony has made them fish fingers and is even more so to learn that Carol had an idea as to what was happening. Sam takes his belongings and leaves the halls. Sam asks Alex to give Anna a letter and leaves for the taxi. Anna chases after Sam and tells him that he can screw up his life if he wants, but to leave her out of his grand gestures.
