Synopsis
Carmel is forced to face some hard evidence against Sonny. Rick uncovers a family secret, while Freddie's frustrations about Lindsey boil over and threaten to wreck the garage relaunch.Plot
It's early morning, and everybody is preparing to start their day. Freddie arrives home to find Ziggy checking himself out and Joe and Lindsey getting intimate. Rick drives away from the garage in Jason and Robbie's car. Carmel gives Kathleen-Angel breakfast as Phoebe eats hers, staring at Sonny, wondering what to do about what she saw last night. Kathleen discreetly watches Sonny from the stairs. As Sonny heads into the kitchen, Phoebe sees an opportunity to look in his bag but is stopped by Kathleen.
At the Roscoes', Jason and Robbie discuss wanting alloys on their car. Robbie and Lindsey share a bit of banter, and Jason asks Joe for extra shifts at the garage to pay for the alloys. Joe is stressed about today's garage relaunch, and Freddie is nowhere to be seen. Joe reminds Ziggy how vital this event is, with press and clients coming - he will look like a mug if Freddie isn't there. Lindsey says he's probably at the garage sorting things out. Joe and Lindsey kiss each other goodbye as he leaves for the garage. Now alone, she texts Freddie, asking where he is.
At the McQueens', Carmel waxes Sonny's eyebrows with Kathleen-Angel's assistance. Whilst he is distracted, Kathleen is trying to guess the password to his phone. Phoebe tells Kathleen that she saw Sonny take an envelope from Grace last night, which looked dodgy. Kathleen is excited that they might have something on him and suggests they get hard evidence - hinting towards his bag. They want to nail him as a bent copper and get Theresa out of prison. Mercedes overhears and makes it known.
The Roscoe brothers (minus Freddie) are on their way to the garage with balloons and trays of food. Joe stresses that he wants everything to be professional - none of that topless car wash malarkey. Ziggy jests that his best work is done with his clothes off. Just ahead, Jason tells Robbie that he can't believe he has no school lessons and has been roped into doing the relaunch. Robbie says once they've got their motor looking "tasty", they can do what they want - and they'll be fighting the birds away with a stick. They realise their car has gone.
Mercedes tries to process the hypocrisy of Kathleen accusing somebody of being a phoney, but Phoebe backs Kathleen up. As Kathleen goes ahead and looks in Sonny's bag, Carmel comes down the stairs just as Kathleen pulls out an envelope. Carmel questions Kathleen, and Mercedes leaves the scene. Sonny arrives downstairs as Kathleen accuses him of being up to no good. She hands the evidence to Carmel to see for herself.
Dennis struggles to carry a keyboard through the village to the Emporium. Blessing assists him, and Dennis wonders why she isn't at work, but something is bothering her. Dennis pushes, and Blessing reveals she hasn't returned to work at The Hutch since Finn got nicked. Dennis reminds her that Tony bent over backwards to get her the job, but Blessing is stuck on the principle. When Dennis doesn't support her stance, she shows him a recruitment site on her phone and informs Dennis that he will help her find a new job.
Lindsey has been looking for Freddie at The Loft and leaves him a phone message as she leaves. She reminds him how important today is and asks him not to do anything stupid.
Carmel opens the envelope to discover that Sonny has been looking at premises for her salon. Kathleen and Phoebe share their frustrations as Carmel gives them some hard truths. When Kathleen mentions that Phoebe saw something, Phoebe makes up a story to tell Carmel: she thought he was cheating on her with Grace. She references her trust issues after what she has been through with Robbie. Sonny reveals that Grace came to him and thinks Carmel's business has potential. He asks her out to dinner later to discuss in more detail. As Sonny leaves with the package and Carmel is satisfied with the explanation, Kathleen wonders why Phoebe didn't tell her about the package from Grace. Phoebe doesn't want Sonny to know they're on to him.
At the garage, Jason gets off the phone with the police and tells Robbie they'll do what they can. Robbie wonders how the thief got the keys to the car. Ziggy encourages Robbie to move on and accept the loss. At that moment, Rick turns up, complimenting the relaunch decorations. Robbie breaks the news to Rick about the "theft".
Freddie is at Katy's grave, tidying it up. He speaks to her about how much he loved being her dad, but he doesn't deserve the chance to be a dad again as the father of Lindsey's baby. Freddie makes peace with the fact that Joe will make a great dad. Trevor arrives with a bag of chips, commenting on how rough Freddie looks.
Blessing goes through job listings as she and Dennis walk to the garage, and Dennis translates the pretentious job titles into realities. Blessing worries about her capabilities as a law student with student debt. They deliver a collapsible table to the Roscoes' garage, which Blessing describes as junk in front of them. Dennis is frustrated that Blessing is putting customers off buying his products. Blessing decides that she should work for Dennis.
Trevor explains to Freddie why he's at the graveyard - to pay some clients where there are fewer prying eyes. Trevor mentions how he and Grace are trying for a baby, and he's annoying her with his Wiki research. He suggests IVF is more complicated than running a criminal empire. Freddie tells Trevor he must step back from The Loft for a while to do part-time work at the garage. Trevor brings out a hip flask and offers some to Freddie. Trevor talks about how his mother used to go to church and always said, "No matter what any of us have done wrong, God will always give us a second chance", but Trevor sees himself as more of an eye-for-an-eye man. Trevor sees having a baby with Grace as his second chance after all the bad things he has done.
The relaunch party at the garage is in progress. Rick, Blessing and Dennis help themselves to complimentary drinks despite Ziggy saying they're for the guests. A journalist interviews Joe as he mentions the family's recent tough times, such as his coma and Fraser Black, and how the business relaunch is also a family relaunch. Lindsey arrives and compliments Joe on the turnout, and Joe points out that Freddie is still missing.
Freddie and Trevor continue to talk. Freddie offers the hip flask to Trevor, who declines as he's driving. Freddie gets another text from Lindsey, which, combined with liquid courage, makes him reconsider his next move, so he takes Trevor up on his offer of a lift back to the village with a mischievous look on his face.
Back at home, Jason is on the phone to a panicking Ziggy at the garage. Sonny arrives at the house and says a speed camera caught Jason's car on Brompton Road - and shows him the photo of Rick driving at 9:30 a.m.
Freddie arrives at the garage, a little intoxicated. Joe introduces Freddie, Lindsey and their unborn baby to the journalist. Lindsey has a private word with Freddie, undervaluing his feelings about last night. Joe delivers a speech to the crowd, and a drunken Freddie asks to take over. Lindsey instantly worries about what Freddie will say, as does Joe. Freddie calls the "happy family" spiel a joke and personally targets Joe. Lindsey tells Freddie to stop, and he leaves.
Blessing and Dennis walk to the Emporium through the village, discussing the drama. Blessing wants to get to work tidying up the shop. She calls him "useless" because he isn't making good business decisions. Blessing bets him £20 that she can sell the keyboard to the next person who walks through the door - just as Trevor walks in.
As Joe vents about Freddie to Lindsey, Jason returns to challenge Rick, telling everyone what he has done. Rick says taking the car was a temporary arrangement, and he needs to rustle up some cash to get it back. Jason wonders why he can't just apologise, and Rick reminds him of how he sorted him out with a solicitor. Robbie disowns Rick as a father, and Jason says they want him gone by tomorrow.
Blessing flirtily suggests the keyboard will "blow" Trevor out of the water as part of her sales tactics. He says his old dear used to have a keyboard but declines the sale. He's only in the Emporium for some napkins as he's short-staffed at The Loft, doing the lackey work himself. Dennis offers Blessing up as a potential employee. Trevor offers her a trial later on.
At the McQueens', Carmel comes downstairs from putting Kathleen-Angel to bed, ready to go out for dinner with Sonny. Kathleen apologises about before, blaming the stress of the Theresa situation, and she worries Carmel by insinuating she might be planning to stick around for longer than she's wanted. When Carmel goes outside to hold their taxi for Sonny, he has words with Kathleen about the morning's drama. He threatens her, and Kathleen vows to show Carmel who he really is, and she won't stop until he's doing time in Holloway. He insists Carmel will cut her out of Kathleen-Angel's life for good - and Mercedes overhears the lot.
Upstairs at the Roscoes', Rick is getting dressed and finds the paternity test results in Freddie's sock drawer. He realises that Lindsey has been up to no good with Freddie. Downstairs, Ziggy tries to encourage Freddie to clear the air and apologise to Joe for his actions earlier. Joe demands an explanation, but Freddie storms off. Back upstairs, Rick takes his newly found blackmail material and ensures Lindsey knows about it. He suspects this is what Freddie's meltdown was about and demands she fix this mess.
Blessing is bursting with ideas and getting on Trevor's nerves at the end of her trial shift at The Loft, but he says he will see her in the morning. She jokingly flirts with him again, giving Dennis a chuckle.Cast
