Synopsis
As Mercedes's trial draws to a close and the jury head off to deliberate, the McQueens cling on to hope.Plot
Doctor Browning takes to the stand and swears an oath. Jim shows Doctor Browning CCTV footage of him listening in to a conversation between Lynsey and Mercedes at the hospital. When asked what he heard, Doctor Browning states that Lynsey was pleading with Mercedes to tell the police that Riley stabbed her. Mitzeee walks into the courtroom and is angry that Doctor Browning's lied, but her outburst only earns her a warning. The bailiff removes Jacqui and Mitzeee when Jim then implies that Riley murdered Lynsey and they try to speak up. Jacqui shuts Mitzeee in the toilets. The prosecution barrister tears into Doctor Browning's speech.
Nana's next to be removed from the courtroom when she tries to defend Doctor Browning. The closing speeches are given by Jim and the prosecution barrister and the jury are sent to deliberate. Nancy comes to Mitzeee's rescue and Mitzeee questions Myra over her conscience, reminding Myra there's still time to do the right thing. The jury are quick to reach a verdict and everyone reconvenes. Mercedes is found not guilty on two counts of perverting the course of justice and is freed. Outside the courtroom, Mitzeee confronts Mercedes and asks for her to repeat that Riley stabbed her. Mercedes does but Mitzeee isn't fooled and warns Mercedes she's used up her nine lives.
The McQueens unite and embrace one another in celebration of Mercedes. A disheartened Mitzeee and Nancy return to the village. At the Dog, Carmel's cold towards Jim for lying in court, but he brushes off her remarks, insisting it's just a job. He tries to invite her out but is interrupted by Nana and Theresa. Mercedes is confused when her and Myra's taxi pulls up outside 28b Fern Street instead of 26 Leigh Road. Myra hands Mercedes an envelope of cash and throws her out of the taxi, refusing to take her daughter back on at home.Cast
