Synopsis

Mercedes begins a downward spiral as she agrees to be an escort for Doctor Browning. Lynsey crosses the line at the hospital when she interferes with a patient's dosage. Cindy agrees to go pretend to be Nancy for Darren's meeting with the registrar. Cheryl makes friends with the students, much to Brendan's disapproval.

Plot

Maddie looks through her photos of Callum. Neil tries to get her attention to no avail. Lynsey and Mercedes wait at the bus stop. Lynsey points out how Mercedes has gotten dressed up for Doctor Browning. Neil reveals to his friends that his birthday is today - they are horrified as they have forgotten. Cheryl leaves for Hollyoaks Community College, and Brendan is shocked that she is actually going through with attending University. Neil's friends don't think that they would be able to drive well. He says that he has been driving with his dad for years, so he can drive very well. Cindy refuses to help Darren with the wedding. He says that she is the only other person that he can trust, and that she will play a part in a surprise that Nancy will be delighted with. She changes her mind. Maddie wants to talk to Callum, but he is dismissive. She says that she wants to wait three months to get to know him before having sex with him. He is pleased that she has managed to open up to him and they kiss.

Rob and Scott are shocked to learn that Cheryl is going to study business studies. Rob is supportive and Scott enjoys teasing her as Rob invites her out with them for a drink. Mercedes is uncomfortable when she and Lynsey enter a patient's room. Lynsey reads the man's chart and tells her that the man is in a coma from head and abdominal trauma sustained in a motorbike accident. Mercedes is still freaked out, seeing the man reminds her of Malachy. Lynsey offers to clean the room by herself and gives Mercedes a different job to do. Doctor Browning asks for a word from Mercedes. He wants to buy her dinner. She says that he has made a mistake underestimating her. He gives her money to buy "something nice" as they are going to an exclusive restaurant. Neil is confident that he could pass his test tomorrow - the group decide that Neil will drive them to Sheffield for a festival. Darren has booked an appointment at the spa for Nancy and is eager to send her on her way.

Mercedes continues to feel uncomfortable around the comatose man. She thinks that he looks a bit like Malachy. She admits when Silas was planning to kill her after she gave birth, she thought that she might get to see Malachy again. Mercedes thinks that Malachy is in heaven, whilst she will go to hell. Lynsey says that everyone makes mistakes. Mercedes thinks that Lynsey was better for Malachy. Mercedes and Lynsey end up bickering. The registrar asks Darren and Cindy (who is posing as Nancy) if they have their birth certificates. She asks if "Nancy" has her decree absolute from her marriage to Jake. Cindy does not know what that means until Darren says "divorce papers". Cindy enjoys speaking poorly of Nancy's occupation and Darren makes subtle hints for her to stop. Cheryl is angry when Brendan tells her off for serving students at The Loft. He thinks that he is protecting her, but she gives him a piece of her mind. Darren worries that the registrar doesn't believe that they have convinced her. The registrar comes back and says that they will need to cough up a huge amount of money... because their marriage has been approved!

Lynsey is concerned about a patient and checks her chart, temperature and pulse. Doctor Browning interrupts and Lynsey says that she thinks that the patient is on too high of a dosage. Doctor Browning tells her to do her job, but Lynsey alters her chart once he has left, which Mercedes notices. Nancy and Cindy bicker, which Darren quickly tries to defuse. Neil has been given dice to hang on the windscreen mirror. Jono tries to apologise to Ruby, but makes a poor attempt. She is left furious. He accidentally causes Ruby to drop the glasses, alerting Jack to the group drinking. He confiscates their beer and tells them to leave to their annoyance, they think that she has told Jack on them. Jack confronts Darren, thinking that he is having an affair with Cindy. He tells Jack that he is planning a surprise Valentine's Day wedding for himself and Nancy. Jack is thrilled with the idea. Mercedes confronts Doctor Browning, she says that she needs more money from him.
