It's time for Sophie to see justice done, but can Mel face going to court? O.B. apologises for not believing Mel had been raped and insists he wants their relationship to be serious. Meanwhile, with Jessica due to come out of hospital, Mark decides a grand gesture is in order.Plot
Sophie sees that Mel has no intentions of going to court. Sam finishes writing a letter. The Owens get ready for court. Nicole finds an article on the trial on the front page of The Chester Herald. Steph is confused by Cameron's nervousness. Mark informs Olivia that Jessica might be getting discharged today. Olivia says that Jessica might need some space from Mark, but he thinks he needs to do a grand gesture for her. Sophie tries to comfort Mel, reminding her what she told Dannii when Dannii was going to jump off the roof. The Owens struggle with Sam being in the limelight, except this time he is guilty. Rob says that Sam, having already pleaded guilty to the crimes in England, will be sentenced. The trial for the two cases in Scotland will be held at a later date. Carrie thinks that it's a bad idea for Nicole to attend the trial.
Sam admits to Russ that he's frightened. Russ is unsympathetic. He says Sam has got it easy - he will be locked up and the family will need to face everyone. Sam gives Russ the letter for Nicole. Gilly arrives, wanting to call a truce with Mark. Liz watches the Owens, they all ignore each other. Court proceedings begin. Steph trashes the flat. Cameron is horrified when he returns to see the mess. Olivia says that Jessica needs "something of substance". The judge gives Sam credit for pleading guilty, but says that he does not believe Sam expresses genuine regret. He thinks Sam serves a danger to society, and gives him the maximum sentence of custody for life with a minimum of 25 years. Sam is horrified. O.B. has arrived to support Mel. Carrie wants to see Sam, she is shocked by the sentence. Cameron struggles as Steph is adamant on making a mess. Steph tries to make him see that life is still going on with the mess.
Carrie apologises to Liz, Liz tries to comfort Carrie as Sophie walks off, saddened. Gilly and Mark continue to fight over Jessica. They compare what Olivia has said, and think that Olivia is trying to play them off each other. They get confrontational and are about to fight when Jessica returns home. Mel celebrates Sam's sentencing. O.B. apologises to Mel. Sophie arrives home alone, and bursts into tears. Sam is upset over going back to prison for 25 years. Cameron tells Steph the reason as to why he doesn't want to go with the band. Steph tries to encourage him to go. He can't believe Steph would think that he would turn his back on her after everything. He agrees to join the band.
Mark enjoys rubbing his past with Jessica in Gilly's face. A dejected Gilly decides to leave. Mel makes O.B. dance with her. O.B. tells Mel that he really likes her, he wants a serious relationship with her. He invites her to stay the night, she goes to get her coat. Nicole can't understand why anyone is sympathising with Sam. She says that she would have rather died than let Andy touch her, and thinks the girls thought the same, which is all she can think of when she looks at Sam. She doesn't see her protective brother anymore. Russ gives Nicole the card. She refuses to read it and sets it alight. Carrie wants to appeal the sentence but Sam is unoptimistic.
