Synopsis

Cindy struggles to keep her secret as she goes into labour. Ruth reaches the end of her tether with a jealous Kurt. Dawn worries about her next round of chemotherapy. Lucy begins to find a friend in Rob, and Ruth convinces Sol to give Jack a chance.

Plot

Mr. Osborne is confused when Sol gets up and leaves suddenly. Mandy arrives to visit Cindy. Mrs. Cunningham is concerned about Cindy feeling unwell and wants her to see a doctor, but Cindy refuses. She decides to keep Cindy away from Dawn as a precaution. Ruth is delighted when she shows Kurt her first credited newspaper article, but he is unimpressed to see Simon's name next to hers. Kurt is ungrateful for Ruth looking at another car. Mrs. Benson is stressing about going to Aunt Rose's for Christmas, and inadvertenly mentions Ollie. The Bensons remember that it's their first Christmas without him. Mrs. Benson reminds everyone that they shouldn't cancel Christmas as Ollie loved Christmas. Ruth wants to surprise Kurt with a present. Kurt is not pleased when he discovers that Ruth has been invited to Simon's office party. Dawn admits that she is worried about the next course of chemotherapy. Jack tries to speak to Sol, but Sol ignores him. Sol makes clear that he's only here for Jill.

Mandy wants to go out with Cindy, she has to go spend Christmas with Aunt Joan, Helen and Lewis. Mandy is disappointed that she won't be celebrating Christmas with her father. She thinks that he shouldn't be on his own, ill, in a bedsit at Christmas. Rob bumps into Lucy. She initially doesn't want to see him, but reluctantly agrees, especially having seen him give food to a homeless man. Sol continues to wind up Jack. Kurt apologises for his reaction. Sol also winds up Ruth. Ruth leads Kurt outside to see his present - Ruth has bought him a car. Kurt is furious. Lucy is impressed by Rob being generous. Kurt and Ruth argue when Ruth reveals that the car belongs to Simon. Ruth decides to go to the office party, having already said no. She tells him not to wait for her. Rob is concerned about Lucy. She admits that she is not looking forward to Christmas as they won't all be together. Rob invites Lucy to not celebrate Christmas together, but Lucy says that Ruth has invited her to spend Christmas with the Osbornes.

Dawn is suspicious, thinking that Jambo is up to something. Kurt sits in the car, and has a flashback to the crash. Ruth vents to Jack. She ends up arguing with Ruth, and tells her that Jack has feelings for Jill. She convinces him to give Jack a chance. Mandy shows Cindy her slimming pills. Ruth has gotten through to Sol. Mandy and Cindy argue and Mandy storms off. Cindy begins having contractions. Ruth vents to Dawn. She comforts Dawn over her next round of chemotherapy. Cindy is in a lot of pain. Kurt and Mr. Benson bicker. Kurt is thrilled to get a mixing desk. Lucy is delighted with her present and Ruth loves the dictaphone. She continues to be cold towards Kurt as she leaves fpr the office party. Cindy lies about her contractions to Mrs. Cunningham. She says that if CIndy is ill tomorrow, she is getting a doctor. Ruth arrives home drunk. Ruth is all over Kurt, but he is annoyed that she was out with Simon. Ruth is angry with Kurt, and makes clear that he is sleeping downstairs.
