Synopsis

New students Mel Burton, Joe Spencer and Robbie Flynn arrive in the village. Ellie's concern over Toby could leave Mel in serious danger. Lee's performance goes disastrously, whilst Ben wonders as to whether to give into Emma.

Plot

Joe Spencer arrives at the Hall of Residence. Toby stares at the card for a counsellor. Lee prepares for his performance. Joe finds Mel Burton struggling to lift her trunk into the halls. Les and Dan are unconvinced that Lee will do well. Joe convinces two other students to carry Mel's trunk. Mel is horrified when a streaker in a g-string runs past. Toby cancels his counselling sessions with Dr. Coleman. When Ellie walks in, Toby quickly hangs up and pretends to be telling Dan that he won't be able to come into work. Ellie opens her towel and tells him that he can help "dry [her] off". Sally is the only one encouraging Lee, although she thinks that he needs to learn his limits for himself.

Craig offers to show Natalie around the village. She is stunned to read how he has described The Dog in the Pond. Dan is unimpressed when Emma arrives at the pub. Ben doesn't think that Emma has feelings for him. Debbie disagrees with Dan's attitude towards Lee's performance. Robbie Flynn introduces himself to Natalie, Mel and Joe. He tells them that he is doing sports science, Mel says that she is studying computer science and Natalie is studying biology. Toby wants to flee the village, he thinks the village is bad for them. Robbie argues with the manager of the Halls of Residence over his room. She is also harsh towards Joe, whilst Natalie gives as good as she gets. Mel, Joe, Robbie and Natalie realise that they are getting nowhere and leave.

Toby gets annoyed over Ellie talking about counselling. Ellie thinks that Toby might be depressed, angering him. Craig is dismayed as Joe, Robbie, Natalie and Mel - the remaining tour guide recipients - are unimpressed by The Dog. Natalie thinks that Joe is gay and Robbie agrees, but Mel is unconvinced. Craig tries to sabotage Lee's performance by switching the cassette from the tape for Lee to lip-sync to, to one that is just music. An angry Toby goes to leave and refuses to say where, so Ellie is adamant on going with him. He explodes at Ellie and orders her to leave him alone. Debbie is horrified when she can't find the right tape, and tells Lee that he will have to perform live. Mel isn't interested in the show, but Natalie convinces her to stay.

Scott interrupts Emma and Ben. Emma says that she didn't think Scott cared much about women wanted, considering how he obviously didn't care about Beth not wanting to sleep with him. Scott tries to flirt with Natalie, and she quickly accepts his offer to go to the bar. Ellie worries as she cannot find Toby. Robbie and Joe try to threaten Craig into giving them a refund, but he runs off. Joe is horrified when Robbie says that he and Natalie thinks that he is gay. Abby is annoyed with Craig when she snubs Lee. The crowd is annoyed by Lee's performance, so Debbie takes over. Joe tries to flirt with Debbie, he lies that he's a record producer and Robbie backs him up. Abby wants to comfort Lee, but Craig stops her and laughs at Lee. Abby is furious. Joe gets his revenge by telling girls that Robbie is gay. Debbie overhears him talking about his ‘fashion house', and gets angry. Emma invites Ben back to her house. Ben says that he wants to, but won't. Abby tries to comfort Lee but inadvertently angers him. A drunken Mel asks Toby for help finding the Halls.
