D.C. Emma Chambers was a police officer who, alongside D.I. Will Davies, investigated The Hollyoaks Serial Killer in 2003.
Emma arrived in the village in August 2003, moving to Hollyoaks after breaking up with her boyfriend. That night, she went to The Loft and had a one-night-stand with Ben Davies. Ben was later left horrified to discover that Emma was replacing D.C.I Dale Jackson's role in the investigation into the serial killer. However, things softened between them when Emma went head-to-head with Scott Anderson, who had his sights set on Ben's on/off girlfriend Izzy Cornwell. Inspired by the final words of a car crash victim, Ben gave up on Izzy and gave into his feelings for Emma.
However, Emma's revelation that she was pregnant left Ben stunned. He asked for her to have an abortion and reunited with Izzy. The arrival of Alison Davies for Ben and Izzy's wedding worsened things as she revealed that Emma and Will had previously had an affair when Alison and Will were still married. On the wedding day, Scott took delight in telling Izzy about Emma's pregnancy, but Izzy forgave Ben and decided to marry him anyway.
After the serial killer died before being apprehended, Emma kept her distance from Ben and Izzy. In February 2004, Emma went into labour whilst they were nearby and Ben accompanied her to hospital. She gave birth to a son, Arthur. After the birth, Ben developed an interest in Arthur - supported by Izzy. However, after Izzy suffered a miscarriage and was deemed infertile, both she and Ben struggled with Emma's presence. After Arthur's christening turned disastrous when a fight broke out between Emma and Alison, and Izzy left Ben as she struggled with her infertility, Ben turned on Emma and Arthur. Emma also grew fed up of his behaviour and moved to London with Arthur.
In April 2005, Ben got back in touch with Emma after Tom Cunningham went missing. He visited her and Arthur in August 2005 and continued seeing him after. In September 2005, Ben decided to apply for residency but his new girlfriend Lisa Hunter convinced him against it. Ben later died in December 2006.
