Eleanor Rosa "Ellie" Nightingale is the daughter of Mac and Marnie Nightingale, the sister of James and Nathan Nightingale, as well as the half-sister of Alfie Nightingale and Juliet Nightingale.
She left the village in September 2018 to move to Paris with Holly Cunningham.
Biography[]
2015-2016: Arrival & Relationship with Freddie[]
Ellie is first seen at Tony Hutchinson and Diane O'Connor's wedding after party in October 2015 along with her older brother, Nathan Nightingale and his girlfriend Rachel Hardy. Cindy Savage tries to tell Ellie to leave, but Ellie refuses and insults her this leads Jack Osborne to step in before things go further and also reveals his sold his pub, The Dog in the Pond to Ellie's family, Ellie is then joined with her father, Mac Nightingale and younger brother Alfie Nightingale unaware that her father has a connection to Cindy. Ellie is not best pleased when they are then joined with Mac's girlfriend, Neeta Kaur as she thinks Neeta is only with her father just for the money Ellie lies to Neeta telling her Mac does not want her around but after finding out about her lies Neeta confronts her which leads to Ellie some what respecting her more.
Two months after her into her arrival, Ellie goes to Brighton in December 2015 in order to celebrate new years away from her family by chance Ellie bumps into Freddie Roscoe not knowing who he is and unaware his in Police protection in aid to take down Trevor Royle who supposedly wanted Freddie dead. Ellie hits it off with Freddie and the two instantly share a spark however its interrupted when DS Thorpe meets Freddie and tells him that his brother Ziggy Roscoe has died. Ellie later reunites her spark with Freddie and the two begin a relationship but after Ellies mother, Marnie Nightingale arrives along with Ellie's oldest brother, James Nightingale. Ellie is later left devastated when she discover that her own mother has been sleeping with Freddie.
Ellie also supports her youngest brother Alfie through his Cancer diagnosis and being left shocked to discover that Alfie is also her biological half-brother and not adoptive as originally believed and that Cindy is Alfie's mother.
2016-2017: Rape[]
After breaking up with Freddie, Ellie goes on the rebound to a party in The Loft. She meets Nick Savage, and the two kiss. They return to The Dog, Ellie tells Nick she's going to show him her room. Ellie and Nick are both clearly drunk. They start to kiss. Ellie sits down then lays down. Nick starts to kiss Ellie's neck. Ellie gets up and then lays back down. She starts talking nonsense. Nick says she is wasted, and Ellie agrees. The two have sex.
The next morning, Ellie awakens with a strong hangover, with Nick next to her. They are both hungover. Ellie notices her underwear on the floor. Nick explains to Ellie they had sex. Ellie is visually distressed. Nick carries on talking, but Ellie seems quite nervous. The two leave. Lisa shouts at Nick, and congratulates him. Back in her room, Ellie starts crying and undresses, she cries into her duvet, unsure of what happened. Ellie is then seen in the shower. She monologues over the episode. She picks up a bin bag and takes her duvet sheet and bed sheet and puts it into the bag. She sits in the corner, crying. A few days later, Ellie reconciles with Freddie.
In December 2016, struggling to cope with what happened, Ellie gets drunk and collapses from alcohol poisoning. Alfie finds her and she's taken to hospital. When she's tended by Nick, she assaults him when he put his hand on her arm. The next day, Ellie gets arrested, but is released when Nick drops the charges. Once released, Ellie plans to tell Freddie about what Nick did, but before she can tell him, Alfie reveals to her that Freddie slept with her mum, Marnie Nightingale. The next day, after Nick touches her hair to take a piece of paper out, Ellie breaks down in her room and cuts off her hair.
A few month later, after her brother Nathan Nightingale dies after Mac accidentally pushes him out a window, Ellie starts getting angry whilst struggling to cope and starts lashing out and attacking Freddie. In March 2017, Ellie finally tells Freddie that she was raped, but doesn't tell him that it was Nick. Freddie wants Ellie to tell the police, but Ellie tells him that she just wants to carry on as normal. Whilst talking Ellie out for a meal at The Hutch, Freddie notices Ellie's mood change when Nick shows up with his girlfriend, Holly Cunningham. Freddie asks Ellie if it was Nick who raped her, and when her reaction confirms this, Freddie tries to attack Nick, but is stopped by Nick's uncle, Dirk Savage, and Freddie blurts out that Nick raped Ellie. Dirk and Holly don't believe Ellie when Nick tells them that Ellie had consensual sex with him to make Freddie jealous.
Ellie tells her family, and then goes to the police and reports Nick. When there isn't enough evidence, Freddie convinces Lisa to lie to the police that Nick spiked Ellie's drink, which she does, but soon retracts her statement. Ellie is told that there isn't enough evidence to charge Nick and the charges are dropped, which results in Freddie assaulting Nick. When he faces prison, Freddie decides to go on the run to South Africa and Ellie decides to go with him. As they're about to leave, Freddie tells Ellie that she can't come with him as he doesn't want to ruin her life, and leaves the village alone, leaving Ellie distraught.
In May 2017, Holly confides in Ellie and tells her that Nick raped her too. Ellie tries to get Holly to go to the police. Holly initially refuses, but ultimately decides to and Nick gets arrested. After Dirk convinces Nick to tell the truth, Nick confesses to raping both Ellie and Holly. In June 2017, Nick is sentenced to seven years imprisonment and Ellie and Holly become friends.
2017-2018: Relationship with Damon, Pushing Mac out the window & Departure[]
In September 2017, Ellie and Holly go out to a nightclub with Damon Kinsella and Brody Hudson. Ellie goes home with Damon at the end of the night and they sleep together. A few days later they start a relationship. Ellie and Damon's relationship ends a few weeks later when they both realise that they're better off being friends. In November 2017, Mac Nightingale is arrested for attempting to kill Jack Osborne and causing the Hollyoaks High explosion which killed Neeta Kaur, but Ellie lies to the police that Mac was with her, after he promises her that he's innocent. The next day, Ellie and Alfie catch Mac and Lisa in a compromising position and they realise that Marnie and James were telling the truth about Mac having an affair with Lisa when she was engaged to Nathan. The next day, James tells Ellie and Alfie that Mac physically abused him as a teenager for being gay, but Ellie and Alfie don't believe him. When Ellie walks in on Mac beating James, she realises that James was telling the truth, and in a moment of anger charges at Mac and pushes him out the window. Mac is taken to hospital when he's been diagnoses with locked-in syndrome. Ellie apologises to James for not believing him and then tells Alfie that James was telling the truth about Mac. When the police arrive, Marnie lies that she pushed Mac out the window to protect Ellie.
In the January 2018, Cindy Cunningham sleeps with Grace Black's boyfriend Glenn. Ellie's coat had got mixed up with Cindy's and as Cindy tried to help Grace work out Glenn's other woman, they found the coat. Grace puts it online to see who respond, and Ellie responds to the AD. Ellie goes to the dog to get her coat and once she gets there, Grace grabs her and tries to throw her down the loft's steps. Cindy sees and admits that she slept with Glenn, not Ellie.
Ellie is seen again having to support Alfie boy this time through his mental health having suffering from schizophrenia and is delighted when he gets better and by September 2018, Ellie decides to leave Hollyoaks village along with Holly in order to start a new life in Paris the two girls say their goodbyes after packing and leave together ready for a new life.
