Elfine was the best friend of Finn when he resided in Ireland as a young child. After the death of his mother, Finn was raised by his grandmother in her castle. Finn was envious of Elfine's "ordinary" life, as he was set to inherit the title of 'Lord Kildiggin' after her grandmother's death. However, Finn and Elfine left on bad terms when Finn was taken back to England by his father, swearing never to return to Ireland ever again.
In September 1999, Finn broke his word and returned to Ireland to visit his dying grandmother - this time accompanied by his friends.
