Darren "DJ" Osborne Jr. is the son of Mandy Richardson, the biological son of Luke Morgan, the adoptive son of Darren Osborne, the half-brother of Oliver Morgan, Grace Hutchinson, and Ella Richardson, the adoptive half-brother of Jack Osborne II, and Francine, and Oscar Osborne, and the adoptive foster half-brother of Phoenix Hathaway.
His father was initially believed to be Darren Osborne, with Ollie Morgan initially lying about the results of the DNA test. DJ is also the half brother of Ella Richardson and the deceased Grace Hutchinson.
Mandy discovered that she was pregnant in October 2018, but she was unaware of who the father was due to her relationship with Luke and her affair with Darren. Mandy and Luke split and Darren and his wife Nancy separated following the affair being revealed, which resulted in Mandy and Darren getting together. The pair decided to raise the child as if Darren was confirmed to be the father. Later in her pregnancy, Mandy was informed that her son appeared to have spina bifida. Mandy decided to have an operation before the baby's birth.
In April 2019, Mandy went into labour and gave birth to a son. The doctor informed the pair that the baby may not yet be moving his legs, but was no cause for concern. Darren became concerned when an intoxicated Nancy visited the pair in hospital and told Darren that the baby looked like Luke's son, Ollie. Darren had concerns over the baby not being his, so Mandy suggested that they named the baby after him, with "DJ" as his nickname. Darren decided to take a DNA test, which he later told Mandy about. The pair found themselves unable to read the results themselves so they asked Ollie to do so. Ollie told them that the results revealed that Darren was DJ's father, which Ollie later told Luke. However, it was revealed that Ollie had lied and that there was an extremely high chance that Luke was DJ's father. Meanwhile, Darren and Mandy were pleased when DJ produced movement in his legs.
Ollie struggled with his guilt over the lie, and eventually confided in Cindy Cunningham. Luke later discovered the truth and, although he wanted to play a role in DJ's life, accepted that he would be raised by Darren and Mandy. On the day of DJ's christening in October 2019, Darren overheard Luke talking to DJ and later confronted Mandy, who was equally shocked at learning the truth. However, the pair later made up (even after it was revealed that Darren slept with Nancy whilst trapped in the underground tunnels), and the trio decided to co-parent DJ.
In December 2019, Luke was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. In February 2020, the doctors ran further tests and discovered that Luke's condition was not caused by his alcoholism, but was in fact hereditary. Darren revealed this to Mandy, and reminded her that Luke was DJ's biological father, meaning that there was a 50% chance that DJ would have frontotemporal dementia. However, he would not be able to be tested until he was eighteen years of age. Mandy moved to Los Angeles in January 2022, taking DJ with her.
