Cyril Cunningham was the father of Gordon Cunningham and grandfather of Dawn, Jude, Cindy, Max and Tom Cunningham. In November 2001, Gordon took Max fishing, despite not having a fishing licence. Gordon presented Max with Cyril's fishing licence, telling him that "grandad Cunningham loved his fishing".
