2022 was Hollyoaks's twenty-eighth year of production.
Overview[]
Lucy Allan remained in the role of executive producer and Philip Dodds in the role of series producer for a second year.
Storylines run this year included Eric Foster's misogynistic 'incel' views and subsequent harmful behaviours, Warren Fox's painkiller addiction turning to liver failure (and discovering that his biological mother was alive!), a cancer diagnosis for Juliet Nightingale, Imran Maalik's struggles with anorexia, Wendy Blissett's plot to take her nephew Bobby Costello to the United States (resulting in the return of serial killer Silas Blissett), and James Nightingale's spiral following the death of his mother.
Nancy Osborne gave birth to a daughter Morgan by husband Darren Osborne (5868) a day after their third wedding (5867), but Ella Richardson and Charlie Dean were devastated when the sonographer couldn't find their baby's heartbeat (5800). Misbah Maalik and Zain Rizwaan married after Shaq Qureshi and Nadira Valli jilted each other at the altar (5924), whilst Prince McQueen decided to marry Olivia Bradshaw despite her infidelity with his Hunter, but broke up with her during the reception (6014).
This year also saw Hollyoaks's deadliest year on record. Maya Harkwell was shot dead during a struggle over a gun with Ethan Williams (5760), Celeste Faroe and Sylver McQueen were killed in the Salon de Thé de Marnie Explosion (5762/5763) whilst Marnie Nightingale later died suddenly (5764). Zara Morgan learned of councillor Tom Whitworth's death in the paper (5806), and Norma Crow shot dead police informant Asher Jones (5841). Luke Morgan fell from a cliff during a holiday in Mallorca (5869), Mercedes McQueen was told that Wendy had died in a car crash (5877), and Saul Reeves was left brain dead after an arrest gone wrong (5899). Norma forced Sienna Blake and Ste Hay to bury a body (5907), James revealed that he pushed a man to suicide (5911) and Norma had three lawyers killed since his disappearance (5912). Victor Brothers accidentally shot himself dead at his mother's funeral (5944); whilst Mick (5932) and Lexi Calder were Silas's last victims before he (5949) and Verity Hutchinson (5998) were killed by Bobby. Les the Embalmer was also killed by Warren Fox (5982).

- 4th January - Trish Minniver moves to Los Angeles after reconciling with her daughter Maxine. (Final appearance of the character)
- 10th January - Maya Harkwell stalks Serena Chen-Williams and prepares to shoot her. Ethan Williams tries to prevent her, and Maya is fatally shot during the scuffle.
- 12th January - A gas oven with a faulty seal causes an explosion at Salon de Thé de Marnie. Juliet Nightingale is gravely injured when the stairs collapse beneath her. Celeste Faroe dies after being crushed when the ceiling collapses, whilst a trapped Sylver McQueen is killed in a second blast. (Final appearance of Celeste)
- 13th January - Marnie Nightingale dies unexpectedly from a head injury sustained in the explosion at Salon de Thé de Marnie.
- 14th January - Becky Quentin is taken to Dee Valley Police Station for questioning by D.S. Cohen on suspicion of causing the Salon de Thé explosion after James Nightingale catches her in the background with a smoke bomb in a video Marnie Nightingale put online on the night of the explosion. (Final appearance of Marnie)
- 20th January - Warren Fox is hit by a car, driven by an unknown driver.
- 25th January - Warren Fox collapses and suffers a seizure.
- 3rd February - Sylver McQueen and Marnie Nightingale's funerals take place. After Sylver's funeral, Cher McQueen leaves the village to make amends with her mum. (Final appearance of Cher)
- 11th February - Toby Faroe is arrested on suspicion of the murder of Lisa Loveday after being set up by Felix Westwood. (Final appearance of Toby)
- 14th February - Celeste Faroe's funeral takes place.
- 15th February - Ollie Morgan collapses after taking Becky Quentin's dodgy medicine.
- 21st February - Sam Chen-Williams is brutally attacked by Warren Fox. Saul Reeves meets new D.S. Zoe Anderson, his replacement at Dee Valley Police Station. Imam Zain Rizwaan arrives in the village, having been called by Misbah Maalik to speak to her son, Imran. (First appearance of Zain and Zoe)
- 22nd February - Warren Fox collapses.
- 25th February - DeMarcus Westwood collapses from alcohol poisoning.
- 28th February - Mercedes McQueen finds a video message from her late husband Sylver on Bobby Costello's tablet, taken seconds before his death. (Final appearance of Sylver)
- 4th March - Ella Richardson suffers a miscarriage.
- 8th March - Eric Foster arrives in the village in search of Verity Hutchinson. Ethan Williams is shot in the leg by an unknown gangster. (First appearance of Eric).
- 14th March - Serena Chen-Williams is hospitalised after taking an amphetamine overdose, having drunk from friend Clara's spiked water bottle.
- 16th March - Lisa Hunter returns to the village to see friend Zara Morgan. (First appearance of the character since 2006)
- 17th March - Dylan Barker and Lisa Hunter set off smoke bombs in Dee Valley Hall during a protest, tricking Zara Morgan into being arrested as they flee.
- 18th March - Lisa Hunter sends Zara Morgan a video message to pass on to Dee Valley Police Station, explaining the full story behind the fire at Dee Valley Hall. (Final appearance of Lisa)
- 23rd March - Mason Chen-Williams meets Freya Calder whilst preparing for the school camping trip. (First appearance of Freya)
- 24th March - John Paul McQueen flips a minibus containing Leah Barnes, Olivia Bradshaw, Freya Calder, Mason Chen-Williams, Charlie Dean and Ella Richardson onto its side due to a lack of concentration whilst driving down a country lane.
- 25th March - Shaq Qureshi encounters old friend Nadira Valli at a Muslim matrimony event at The Dog in the Pond. (First appearance of Nadira)
- 30th March - Cindy Cunningham is arrested on suspicion of fraud.
- 31st March - Juliet Nightingale is kidnapped by Jeremy Fanning, a man targeting her half-brother James.
- 1st April - Jeremy Fanning is arrested for the kidnap of Juliet Nightingale. James Nightingale is arrested on suspicion of the murder of Raphael Loftus after Jeremy identifies him as the body in the boot of Marnie Nightingale's car.
- 12th April - Warren Fox accidentally starts a fire at 7 Rowing Club Apartments after losing consciousness from taking painkillers, with himself, Sophie and Sebastian Fox trapped inside.
- 14th April - Warren Fox's hit-and-run driver is revealed to be his son, Joel Dexter.
- 15th April - Joel Dexter is brutally attacked after trying to stop three men from fighting.
- 26th April - Darren Osborne proposes to Nancy Osborne, who accepts.
- 29th April - Sienna Blake, Ste Hay and Ethan Williams are marked for death by crime boss 'The Undertaker'. (First appearance of Norma Crow)
- 2nd May - Asher Jones is shot dead by Norma Crow after she discovers that he is a police informant. Scott Drinkwell meets his new foster daughter, Vicky Grant. (First appearance of Vicky)
- 3rd May - Shaq Qureshi proposes to Nadira Valli.
- 5th May - Nadira Valli accepts Shaq Qureshi's proposal.
- 6th May - During a scuffle with James Nightingale, Romeo Nightingale falls and is impaled by a sharp ornament.
- 9th May - James Nightingale is arrested and charged with unlawful wounding.
- 13th May - Maxine Minniver collapses.
- 16th May - Liberty Savage collapses and is rushed to hospital.
- 18th May - Mercedes McQueen is arrested for taking drugs.

- 6th June - Darren and Nancy Osborne remarry. Martine Westwood leaves the village to be closer to the prison her son Toby Faroe is in. (Final appearance of Martine)
- 8th June - Luke Morgan is left seriously injured after falling from a cliff in Mallorca. Nancy Osborne gives birth to a baby girl. (First appearance of Morgan Osborne)
- 9th June - Luke Morgan dies of multiple organ failure from injuries sustained after falling from a cliff.
- 10th June - Cindy Cunningham imagines herself dancing with Luke Morgan whilst practicing their first dance with Ollie Morgan. (Last appearance of Luke until 2023)
- 13th June - James Nightingale is kidnapped by Norma Crow. Romeo Nightingale is viciously assaulted by two men.
- 15th June - John Paul McQueen collapses due to alcohol withdrawal.
- 16th June - Sally St. Claire collapses after suffering a heart attack during an argument with Wendy Blissett.
- 21st June - Mercedes McQueen is informed by Saul Reeves that Wendy Blissett has been killed in a car accident.
- 29th June - At his trial, Ali Shahzad is acquitted on several charges of rape due to insufficient evidence.
- 1st July - Serena Chen-Williams is rushed to hospital after falling off the Park Café roof during a night out with Lizzie Chen-Williams and Maxine Minniver.
- 7th July - Luke Morgan's funeral takes place.
- 8th July - Ollie Morgan leaves the village to become a football coach for a camp in Canada. (Last appearance of the character until 2023)
- 11th July - Sienna Blake gives Warren Fox a drug overdose. As Warren attempts to strangle Sienna, Damon Kinsella strikes him with a wheel brace, leading the pair to believe that he is dead.
- 14th July - John Paul McQueen is arrested after attempting to steal alcohol from Price Slice and pushing DeMarcus Westwood onto broken glass.
- 15th July - Walter Deveraux returns to the village from his holiday in Jamaica. (First appearance of the character since 2021)
- 19th July - Saul Reeves is stabbed by an unknown attacker.
- 20th July - DeMarcus Westwood is arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of Saul Reeves.
- 21st July - After being declared brain dead, Saul Reeves's life support machine is turned off.
- 22nd July - Whilst watching a video of him, Grace Black imagines Saul Reeves proposing to her. Saul's killer is revealed to be Joseph Holmes. (Final appearance of Saul).
- 8th August - Ripley Lennox leaves the village to work with homeless transgender teenagers. (Final appearance of the character)
- 11th August - Pearl Anderson is arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
- 12th August - Saul Reeves's funeral takes place.
- 22nd August - Sophie Fox is rushed to hospital with sepsis.
- 24th August - On the day of Nadira Valli and Shaq Qureshi's wedding, they both realised they couldn't get married as Nadira had been having an affair with Juliet Nightingale and Shaq was still in love with Verity Hutchinson.
- 25th August - Misbah Maalik and Zain Rizwaan get married.
- 6th September - Silas Blissett returns to the villages and kills his friend Mick, who Silas paid to impersonate him, with a glass of poisoned wine. (First appearance of the character since 2021)
- 12th September - Joel Dexter is shot by his father Warren Fox, after Warren discovers that Joel ran him over in a hit-and-run in January 2022.
- 15th September - Sid Sumner receives a letter from Victor Brothers, asking for him to visit him in prison. Leela Lomax is knocked unconscious during a break-in at La Gymnastique orchestrated by James Nightingale and Norma Crow. (First appearance of Victor since 2021)
- 21st September - After attending his mother's funeral, Victor Brothers takes Sid Sumner hostage.
- 22nd September - During a scuffle over a gun with Sid Sumner and Juliet Nightingale, Victor Brothers accidentally shoots himself dead. Mercedes McQueen is kidnapped by Silas Blissett.
- 27th September - Olivia Bradshaw is kidnapped by Silas Blissett.
- 28th September - James Nightingale is kidnapped and trapped in a coffin on the orders of Norma Crow.
- 29th September - Silas Blissett detonates a bomb underneath the escape room at the village carnival, as well as a bomb in the Jubilee Gardens. As Silas attempts to kidnap Bobby Costello, Lexi Calder interrupts and is beaten to death with a rocket flashlight by Silas. The Cunningham Grande Bazaar is destroyed in a third explosion. Warren Fox discovers that Norma Crow is his mother, but they fall from a warehouse platform during a struggle between Warren and D.S. Amaral. Silas is fatally electrocuted when Bobby pushes him onto his electrified chess board during a power surge. (Final appearance of Silas)
- 30th September - Shaq Qureshi proposes to Verity Hutchinson, who rejects. Warren Fox is kidnapped by Norma Crow's associate Godfrey.
- 4th October - Having caught her attempting to kill Norma Crow, Sienna Blake is kidnapped by The Embalmer.
- 6th October - Joseph Holmes is arrested for the murder of Saul Reeves.
- 7th October - Sid Sumner leaves the village to go travelling around Europe. (Final appearance of the character)
- 10th October - Joseph Holmes is arrested for breaching bail conditions.
- 13th October - Imran Maalik collapses from severe dehydration and a seriously infected burn.
- 14th October - Olivia Bradshaw proposes to Prince McQueen, who accepts.
- 20th October - Lizzie Chen-Williams collapses and is rushed to hospital after her drink is spiked by Eric Foster. Beau Ramsey arrives in the village. (First appearance of Beau)
- 7th November - Maxine Minniver is viciously assaulted on a night out in Liverpool.
- 14th November - Norma Crow is kidnapped by "Turner".
- 15th November - Norma Crow's kidnapper is revealed to be The Embalmer, who's assisted by Godfrey. After being disarmed by Godfrey, The Embalmer is fatally shot by Warren Fox during a struggle. Warren later collapses from liver failure.
- 16th November - Norma Crow kidnaps Joel Dexter.
- 23rd November - Walter Deveraux leaves the village, deciding to move to Jamaica for good. (Final appearance of the character)
- 29th November - Damon Kinsella proposes to Liberty Savage, who rejects.
- 1st December - Juliet Nightingale is diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.
- 6th December - Verity Hutchinson is beaten with a book and crushed under a bookshelf by an unknown attacker.
- 7th December - Verity Hutchinson dies from injuries sustained after her attack. Her attacker is revealed as Bobby Costello.
- 8th December - Theresa McQueen leaves the village with her daughter Kathleen-Angel. (Last appearance of the character until 2024)
- 9th December - Whilst making a speech at her memorial, Eric Foster sees a vision of his late sister Verity Hutchinson. (Final appearance of Verity)
- 12th December - Honour Chen-Williams's niece, Shing Lin Leong arrives in the village. (First appearance of Shing Lin)
- 15th December - Liberty Savage leaves for New Zealand after being offered a new job. (Last appearance of the character until 2024)
- 23rd December - Bobby Costello sets Price Slice alight after trapping DeMarcus Westwood (believing him to be Felix) in the store room.
- 28th December - Hunter McQueen returns to the village for his brother Prince's impending wedding to Olivia Bradshaw. (First appearance of the character since 2018)
- 29th December - Olivia Bradshaw and Prince McQueen marry. However, Prince later decides to break up with Olivia due to her behaviour and affair with his brother Hunter, and Olivia leaves the village in shame. Bobby Costello is arrested for the attempted murder of DeMarcus Westwood. (Final appearance of Olivia)
