2014 was Hollyoaks's twentieth year of production.
Overview[]
Bryan Kirkwood remained in the role of executive producer for a third year. Emily Gascoyne and Iain MacLeod joined the programme as series producers in January 2014, with Di Burrows joining in September.
The show continued with the "OTT"-outlook, with a win at the British Soap Awards accelerating the content. Some of the stories included the domestic violence storyline between Maxine Minniver and Patrick Blake escalate, John Paul McQueen raped by student Finn O'Connor, a siege at Dee Valley University Hospital and a train crash.
Cindy Cunningham gave birth to a son (3797), Theresa McQueen had another daughter (3973), Maxine also had a daughter (3994). Believing her partner Joe Roscoe was dead, Lindsey Roscoe had an abortion (3804) but later had a son with him after his return (3998), whilst Grace Black suffered a miscarriage (3952). Sinead O'Connor married Freddie Roscoe (3778), Maxine reluctantly married Patrick Blake (3918), Porsche McQueen married Lockie Campbell (3992), Ste Hay married John Paul McQueen (4023/4024); it was second-time around for Nancy and Darren Osborne (3940), and third time lucky for Diane O'Connor and Tony Hutchinson (4004). Fraser Black killed Jim McGinn (3788), D.S. Sykes (3831) and Superintendent Marlow (3846) before his own death at Freddie's hands (3846). Fraser Black learned from the police that Ray McCormick had been killed (3825), Sinead's daughter Katy O'Connor tragically died from heart problems (3832), Sam and Danny Lomax were killed in a car crash caused by Cameron Campbell (3922), Robert Gupta shot himself dead during the hospital siege (3969), whilst Sonny and Carmel Valentine were the casualties of the train crash (3993).

- 2nd January - Carmel Valentine is arrested on suspicion of theft. Katy Fox dies of an overdose on heroin, supplied to her by her nephew, Joel Dexter.
- 3rd January - Trevor Royle is arrested for possession of illegal substances. Tilly Evans leaves the village for Ireland with Chloe Chance. (Final appearance of the character)
- 6th January - Sonny Valentine returns to the village. (First appearance of the character since 2007)
- 8th January - Theresa McQueen is arrested after attempting to flee the village to avoid being arrested for the murder of Calvin Valentine in May 2010. Nana McQueen is attacked by Finn O'Connor after attempting to stop him and Robbie Roscoe from robbing Attwell's Health Club & Spa.
- 9th January - John Paul McQueen is raped by student Finn O'Connor. Kathleen-Angel McQueen is kidnapped by Sonny Valentine.
- 15th January - Sinead O'Connor and Freddie Roscoe marry.
- 16th January - Freddie Roscoe attempts to kill Mercedes McQueen on the orders of Grace Black by running her over, but swerves at the last second and instead hits Jim McGinn. Joe Roscoe is left injured when Grace Black ties him and leaves him inside 28b Fern Street during the demolishing of the flats.
- 17th January - Freddie Roscoe saves his brother Joe from being killed in the demolishing of the Fern Street flats. Darren Osborne proposes to Nancy Osborne, who at first is reluctant, but eventually accepts.
- 24th January - Jim McGinn awakens from his coma. Jason Roscoe is arrested on suspicion of robbery and assaulting Maxine Minniver.
- 29th January - Jim McGinn is fatally stabbed by Fraser Black. (Final appearaence of the character)
- 11th February - Cindy Savage gives birth to a son.
- 20th February - Finn O'Connor is injured after flipping a quad bike during a chase with Robbie Roscoe.
- 21st February - First appearance of Blessing Chambers.
- 27th February - Jason Roscoe's trial for breaking-and-entering and assault on Maxine Minniver begins. He later receives a youth rehabilitation order after the charges are reduced when Maxine admits to lying about Jason assaulting her.
- 21st March - John Paul McQueen is sentenced to 6 months imprisonment for assaulting Robbie Roscoe.
- 31st March - DS Sykes is fatally stabbed by Fraser Black.
- 1st April - Katy O'Connor dies from an undiagnosed heart condition.
- 11th April - Katy O'Connor's funeral takes place.
- 21st April - Superintendent Marlow is drowned by Fraser Black following a fight.
- 22nd April - Fraser Black is murdered by an unknown assailant.
- 4th June - Darren Osborne collapses from a heart attack.
- 5th June - Fraser Black's funeral takes place.
- 6th June - First appearance of Nico Blake.
- 24th June - Sonny Valentine viciously attacks Rick Spencer.
- 25th June - Grace Black's trial for the attempted murder of Joe Roscoe begins.
- 26th June - Grace Black is found not guilty of the attempted murder of Joe Roscoe. Grace is later shot during a scuffle between Freddie Roscoe and Mercedes McQueen.
- 27th June - Cindy Cunningham's "mystery man" is revealed as the late Rhys Ashworth, whom Cindy is hallucinating. (First appearance of Rhys since 2012)
- 4th July - Nancy Osborne proposes to Darren Osborne, who accepts.
- 14th July - Maxine Minniver falls down the stairs of The Loft during an argument with her fiancé, Patrick Blake.
- 15th July - Freddie Roscoe is arrested on suspicion of the murder of Fraser Black. Lindsey Butterfield reveals to Joe Roscoe that she's pregnant.
- 21st July - Joe Roscoe is arrested on suspicion of the murder of Fraser Black. Fraser's killer is revealed to be Freddie Roscoe.
- 30th July - Maxine Minniver and Patrick Blake marry. During the wedding reception, Patrick accidentally rips Maxine's dress when she tries to leave, revealing her bruises, prompting Maxine to reveal that Patrick has been abusing her.
- 31st July - Whilst trying to kidnap Maxine Minniver, Patrick Blake is assaulted by Dodger Savage.
- 1st August - Dodger Savage is arrested for the assault on Patrick Blake.
- 5th August - Sam and Danny Lomax are killed in a car accident whilst driving to the airport to move to New Zealand. The driver of the other car involved in the accident flees the scene.
- 11th August - Rhys Ashworth is "killed" after being hit by a bus after planning to run away with Cindy Cunningham. (Final appearance of the character)
- 20th August - Danny and Sam Lomax's funeral takes place.
- 27th August - Finn O'Connor attempts to rape Nancy Osborne but is interrupted by Phoebe McQueen, who calls the police.
- 28th August - Robbie Roscoe is arrested on suspicion of the attempted rape of Nancy Osborne.
- 29th August - Darren and Nancy Osborne remarry. During the wedding reception, Nancy recognises Finn O'Connor as her attacker and publicly exposes him, leading to John Paul McQueen to publicly admit that Finn raped him too.
- 1st September - Finn O'Connor is arrested and is later charged with the rape of John Paul McQueen and the attempted rape of Nancy Osborne.
- 11th September - Grace Black finds out she's pregnant. Theresa McQueen reveals to Mercedes and Phoebe McQueen that she's pregnant.
- 16th September - Grace Black suffers a miscarriage.
- 25th September - The McQueen family's attempt at holding Sonny Valentine captive goes wrong when the car ends up rolling into a river with Sonny inside.
- 29th September - Finn O'Connor's trial for the rape of John Paul McQueen and the attempted rape of Nancy Osborne begins.
- 3rd October - Finn O'Connor is found guilty of the rape of John Paul McQueen and attempted rape of Nancy Osborne.
- 7th October - Big Bob begins a siege at the Dee Valley University Hospital after Lindsey Butterfield attempts to call the police after catching Bob and Freddie Roscoe robbing the pharmacy.
- 8th October - Big Bob attempts to shoot Doctor Grey after she manages to escape, accidentally shooting Freddie Roscoe. Esther Bloom collapses from anaphylactic shock.
- 9th October - The siege at the Dee Valley University Hospital comes to an end when Big Bob is shot dead during a scuffle with Cameron Campbell, who stopped Bob from shooting Leela Lomax. The hospital elevator plummets several floors with Tegan Lomax and Ziggy Roscoe inside when the cable snaps.
- 13th October - Maxine Blake proposes to Dodger Savage, and despite Sienna Blake's attempts to ruin the proposal, Dodger accepts. Sienna purposefully hits her father, Patrick, with her car and leaves him for dead.
- 15th October - Maxine Blake is charged with the attempted murder of Patrick Blake. Theresa McQueen gives birth to a daughter. (First appearance of Myra-Pocahontas Savage-McQueen)
- 21st October - Peri Lomax is arrested for driving without a licence and driving underage. Tegan Lomax and Sinead O'Connor find out they're pregnant.
- 24th October - Dennis Savage attempts to kill Trevor Royle by exploding his house in revenge for killing his wife a year ago, but is talked out of doing so by Blessing Chambers and Charles S'Avage. Tegan Lomax finds out she isn't really pregnant and the test result was caused by her nausea medication.
- 28th October - Sonny Valentine attempts to kill Nana McQueen by suffocating her with a pillow after she catches him kidnapping Kathleen-Angel McQueen, but is interrupted by Phoebe McQueen.
- 30th October - Sonny Valentine kidnaps Carmel McQueen.
- 11th November - Despite John Paul McQueen's attempt to ruin the big day, Lockie Campbell and Porsche McQueen marry.
- 12th November - Sienna Blake and Maxine Blake are involved in a car accident which sends them crashing onto train tracks. The car is hit by Porsche McQueen and Lockie Campbell's wedding train, which causes the train to flip. As the train catches alight, Sonny Valentine, who had tried to throw Theresa McQueen off the train, tries to keep her captive. Carmel Valentine frees Theresa and stops Sonny from going after Theresa when the train explodes. Sonny is killed instantly and Carmel dies of her injuries shortly afterwards, surrounded by her family. (Final appearances of Sonny and Carmel)
- 14th November - Dodger Savage is taken hostage by his sister, Sienna Blake.
- 18th November - Esther Bloom discovers she's pregnant after undergoing IVF to be a surrogate for Grace Black and Trevor Royle. Blessing Chambers is arrested for theft after being caught with Trevor's diamonds. After discovering Freddie Roscoe killed Fraser Black, Lindsey Butterfield goes into premature labour.
- 19th November - Lindsey Butterfield gives birth to a baby boy.
- 20th November - Mercedes McQueen is stabbed and kidnapped by an unknown assailant.
- 21st November - Blessing Chambers and Dennis Savage leave the village. (Final appearance of Blessing and last appearance of Dennis until 2018)
- 25th November - Grace Black is accidentally pushed over The Loft balcony by Freddie Roscoe.
- 26th November - Diane O'Connor jilts Tony Hutchinson at the altar after she discovers that he had an affair with her step-daughter, Sinead.
- 3rd December - Maxine Blake's trial for the attempted murder of Patrick Blake begins.
- 4th December - Maxine Blake is found not guilty of the attempted murder of Patrick Blake. Theresa McQueen goes into respiratory arrest after donating a kidney to Nico Blake.
- 5th December - Sienna Blake is revealed to have given Theresa McQueen an overdose of morphine, which caused her to go into respiratory arrest.
- 11th December - Tegan Lomax discovers that Rose Lomax is not her biological daughter.
- 24th December - Ste Hay and John Paul McQueen marry. Sinead O'Connor is hit by a car driven by Dodger Savage and Sienna Blake when Dodger attempts to stop Sienna from jumping out of the moving car.
- 31st December - Rick Spencer is hospitalised after being beaten unconscious by Joe Roscoe.
