←1998 1999 2000→ |
1999 was Hollyoaks's fifth year of production.
Overview[]
This year saw the show begin to broaden, as the programme began to focus on the residents of Hollyoaks as opposed to mainly surrounding a group of students. The size of the cast was increased, and the programme gained a third weekly episode in September 1999.
Stories transmitted throughout the year included Sean Tate's domestic abuse towards Cindy Cunningham and her daughter Holly, Lucy Benson overcoming her heroin addiction after the death of her friend Clare, Sol Patrick going off the rails after learning that he and Gina were Jill's adoptive children, Kate Patrick finding her biological father and having an incestuous relationship with her long-lost twin, and Finn inheriting a castle and wealth from his grandmother.
Helen Richardson married Gordon Cunningham (366) after falling pregnant from a one-night-stand, giving birth on Millenium Eve (393-395). Lucy Benson discovered her friend Clare dead from a drug overdose (302), Sol Patrick woke to find his cellmate's body hanging from the ceiling (325), Finn's grandmother died during his visit to Ireland (344), Lucy was informed that her brother Kurt had been killed by a jet ski (345; but Tony learned different 21 years later!), Nikki Sullivan tells Sam Smallwood that she and her boyfriend killed a man in a car accident (382), Alex Bell was shocked to learn that his internet girlfriend had died (389/390), whilst Rob Hawthorn returned from the dead... only to die setting fire to Finn's Bus (393-395)!
